I live in italy so i do t know if you ate interested in who my surgeon is, however he's Giorgio Iannetti. Only problem with him is that while surgery costs averagely 6000 with any other surgeon, he costs 16000...

Go for it!

I would definitely do upper jaw to reduce the gummy smile + it would shorten your face. That would already have a huge impact on your profile/front. I would also have thought advancing the upper jaw would un-flatten your profile and give your mid/cheek area some more fullness? But that works best for those with a 'sunken in' profile... I def think the upper jaw shortening would work well :)

Best advice i can give is to try to create harmony for your face ~ and not have unrealistic expectations to have a completely different face at the end of it all(?).

I am exactly in your situation. I got a chin implant too. Fortunately, i found an amazing surgeon here that yes, costs very much, but he will adress all my problems (exactly the same as yours) without goin into orthodontic treatment:
my occlusion will stay the same, but by having a LEFORT 1 MAXILLARY impaction, he will shorten the upper jaw by 5 mm. By consequence, the mandible will AUTOROTATE forward. Again, as a consequence of all of this, the cheek bone will be higher, therefore fuller, the gummy smile will dissapear, and the face will look more squared. This surgery even adresses problems as lip incompetence and mentalis strain which you did not adress. If the autorotation is not sufficient to balance the profile, the surgeon will perform a slinding genioplasty replacing the stupid implant (most probably). Only "side" effect is that the nose should get a little bit wider, but my surgeon told me this sincerely and he told me he will try anything he can to lessen the widening of the nose. I will have my surgery on march. Any info contact me. Hoped i helped you!!

The day is almost here!
I have been awaiting this jaw surgery since I was 16, I'm now 20 and all of my metaphorical ducks are in a row.

Between battling my insurance company, and making sure my orthodontist was getting my teeth ready for surgery. This process has been an uphill battle.

I have a rather rare condition by the name of Linear Scleroderma, that caused an open bite(will post pics.) The only way to correct my bite is with extensive orthognathic surgery.

I have sought much support from all of these blogs and hope to provide some insight to any/all people who are considering jaw surgery!

[b][i]Any advice is much appreciated!

I am very unhappy with my appearance and I have been considering jaw surgery, but am nervous considering what a huge operation it is. I have a weak chin (no chin actually, but then I got an implant. It still recedes), a flat cheek area in the front of my face, and a long narrow face. When I relax, my lips hang open, but I only have about 3 cm of excess gumminess in my smile. I have a good bite now thanks to orthodontics, so tooth removal would be necessary in order to reposition the lower jaw. My surgeon seems quite comfortable with the idea but the orthodontist acted like I was crazy because I was willing to go through so much trouble.

After seeing results of people on here and other websites, I have been interested in jaw surgery. My primary cosmetic goals are to:

1. give my cheeks and midface a more defined feminine fullness
2. have a nice little chin and defined jawline without my implant :P
3. possibly shorten and widen it

My chin looks like this from the side with the implant (the first one): http://eng.bkdy.co.kr/photo/photoviewN.asp?pi_img=face_20110521_13_b.jpg&pi_w2=1020&pi_h2=600&pi_etitle=Correction%20of%20Microgenia

Before implant (first one): http://eng.bkdy.co.kr/photo/photoviewN.asp?pi_img=photo_b_face_23.jpg&pi_w2=1020&pi_h2=310&pi_etitle=Genioplasty%20%28Silicone%20Implant%29

My face looks exactly like hers from this angle: http://i44.tinypic.com/2mq29sx.jpg

Actually, I look like Patti Smith from a lot of angles. How can I stop looking like Patti Smith? I have "long face syndrome"/ "adenoid face"/ "mouth breather face"

Sorry for not posting photos of my own, but I wanted to get some suggestions before posting myself up on the internet. Hope you understand. Please give me some advice :)

I'm sure it takes time to stretch everything out. I haven't had the jaw surgery yet but I know from ankle surgery it took a very long time to get my complete range of motion back. Cut up the burgers and as for oral sex--good excuse to go to the toy store ;)

Ihad lower jaw surgery to correct and overbite just under 8 weeks ago. Initially I could only open my mouth a few milimetres. It has improved and i can now open it so there is a gap between my upper and lower teeth of about 25mm, allowing me to eat, but it is still not good enough. I can't fit large things in my mouth, taking a bit bite out of a burger etc. And not to sound inappropriate, but my personal life in the bedroom is suffering as i cant give oral sex... 7 weeks is a long time and i am getting worried I won't be able to do any of these things again. Will this get better? Some help, please?

I'm 14 days post-op and am totally numb in my chin and only have small sensation in the corner of my lip on the right side, feels odd. What you're experiencing is totally normal, like everyone says. My swelling has luckily gone down a lot. I'm a huge fan of the heating pad on my face!! Sometimes I feel my face getting stiff, especially in the mornings when I wake up. Sooner or later you'll probably start having sharp shooting pains across your jaw, that's also normal to. They suck and come out nowhere and last about two seconds. And that's so funny to hear someone else has an itchy feeling!! That just started for me and it's like "WTF?" I have numbness in that area but it itches and itching doesn't help, haha. My cheeks went into a tingly frenzy about a week after surgery and when I woke up realized I had regained a lot of feeling back. You'll have a lot of weird sensations going on while your nerves come back over the next few months as well. And sadly, it takes patience and a lot of time before you get feeling back. That and everyone just heals differently. Best of luck!!

Sorry you had some a-hole cause your injury. Hopefully they will somehow be held responsible.

I was told it will take 6-9 months for the feeling to return to the left side of my lower lip/chin (this area was troublesome during surgery based on location of the nerve) and 6 months on average for feeling to return on the right side. The right side has some feeling everywhere but only a slight sensation feeling. I can feel if I lightly brush my finger over the right side but if I have food on my face, I wouldn't notice it there. I guess this is due to the different layers of sensation and numbness we can experience. I'm 34 years old and had double jaw surgery with a 1 cm advancement of the lower jaw which increases the risk of permanent numbness based on age and significance of movement. I hope this gives you something to gauge your progress by. It definitely takes a long time and a lot of patience!
