Unrelated but my grandma had numbness after having some lower teeth pulled out, and regained part of it back perhaps 10 years later (or some ridiculous amount of time, where she had just accepted it'd be permanent).

If your nerve wasn't cut, there's always a chance I'd say.

Hey everyone! Such a blessing to find this website/ thread!

I had a huge surgery in 2010 to correct my underbite, and although I feel SO thankful to have had the surgery, it has now been 2 years later and I still have absolutely no feeling in my upper lip/ right side of my face. The Dr said numbness was to be expected for weeks post Op or even months post op, however as I said it's been 2 years and I still have seen no improvement.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but when I eat or drink a beverage, I have to be SO careful or else it will dribble down my face without me even feeling it. Also, due to the numbness of the right side of my face I can only chew with the left side in fear of accidentally biting my tongue and not realizing it.

I am 23 years old and I was wondering if anyone has experienced any similarities and still regained numbness even after 2 years, or if there is anything that anyone has tried to "regain feeling" in their faces that worked successfully for them?

Thank you so much, This is such a wonderful site.

I'm 10 months post op and still numb on my left chin/lip and the roof of my mouth and some parts of my gums. It doesn't affect my facial movements, just gets embarrassing when I have food on my face and don't know it.
At this point, I'm thinking it won't ever come back. I don't have it in me to get another surgery to fix my nerves so I'll just deal with it.

im 6 months and completely numb. Like when i walk around and dont touch it it feels completely numb..but i do feel sharpness of a needle and cold on one side (which i didnt a few months ago). So i guess even though it feels completely numb, its not. Im actually getting evaluated by a specialist next week. You should do the same to see if there is any type of surgery you would need to help it come back. at 6 months the chances of a successful surgery start going down, so it would be best to figure out if you need it now. Did the surgeon cut any nerves? also did you have a genioplasty?

I'm 14 days post-op and am totally numb in my chin and only have small sensation in the corner of my lip on the right side, feels odd. What you're experiencing is totally normal, like everyone says. My swelling has luckily gone down a lot. I'm a huge fan of the heating pad on my face!! Sometimes I feel my face getting stiff, especially in the mornings when I wake up. Sooner or later you'll probably start having sharp shooting pains across your jaw, that's also normal to. They suck and come out nowhere and last about two seconds. And that's so funny to hear someone else has an itchy feeling!! That just started for me and it's like "WTF?" I have numbness in that area but it itches and itching doesn't help, haha. My cheeks went into a tingly frenzy about a week after surgery and when I woke up realized I had regained a lot of feeling back. You'll have a lot of weird sensations going on while your nerves come back over the next few months as well. And sadly, it takes patience and a lot of time before you get feeling back. That and everyone just heals differently. Best of luck!!

Sorry you had some a-hole cause your injury. Hopefully they will somehow be held responsible.
