no bruising for me yet. i'm constantly switching between ice packs and heat packs, so i think that helps tremendously. i just ate 2 sweet potatoes pureed with soy milk, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg. it was delicious. i eat smoothies with frozen or fresh fruit, protein and fiber powder, silken tofu, yogurt and OJ. it's delicious. plus i have carnation instant vanilla with vanilla soymilk. i also had spaghetti o's blended with cottage cheese. i eat often to keep full. i'm using a kid sippy cup right now - just a bit of tilt and drink, doesn't even have to go in my mouth - i just put it up against my rubberbands.

my swelling is up and down. it feels great for an hour or two and then it re-increases. no real rhyme or reason, just patience.

    Hi Guys,

I just had lower Jaw surgery 4 days ago. I am still very swollen but that doesn't bother me because that was something that I definately anticipated. I am regaining some feeling in my cheeks, lips etc. I have some brusing near my chin which I got this morning. My huge complaint at this point is the pain! I am taking meds that my OS gave me of course but they make me so sick. Honestly they dont help with the pain as much as one would imagine them to either. I wear the "jaw bra" and have done eveything I have been instructed to do. Today was definately my low point. I guess regaining feeling can be a good and bad thing. Does anyone have any tips on dealing with pain besides the obvious? At this point, my 4 month old daughter is the only thing getting me through.

hey ange. I feel your pain. im 10 days post op and feel how I did 3 days post op so be prepared for a bumpy road. I'm at the stage where I wished I was still swollen cause this feeling crap sucks. I don't ice much anymore, my OS switched me to heat. at first it didn't feel like it helped but if u pinpoint one pain and just press heat into it - 10min & it's gone. my pain med is liquid vicodin cause I'm allergic to codeine. try taking liquid childrens ibuprofen. I did that on my light pain days. 4 teaspoons worked well.

my blog is blog.aprilsayler.com if u wanna read up about my ongoing recovery. OR hit me up on gmail or gtalk (superflycrazy)

    Hey Ange,

I had upper and lower jaw surgery 13 weeks ago. Day 4 and 5 were the absolute worst for me. I was home from hospital and the drop in pain meds from what I was getting at the hospital to what they gave me to take home was pretty brutal. I think the swelling was at its peak at that point too. Also, I couldn't stop crying on day 5 which didn't help the pain!

I was on paracetamol/codeine and my surgeon said the best thing I could do was take some ibuprofen between doses of the other one. It took the edge off enough til I got through it.

Probably the best advice I have is that it will get better! It really will! Good luck!

Thanks guys. I had my surgery in the OS office. So I did not have the heavy hospital drugs. I will say so far that yesterday and today have been the worst so far. I mostly sleep during the day because the pain is so awful and plus the pain meds make me very tired and light headed. I go back to the OS on Tuesday. Hopefully I will be a little better by then.
