Hi, just some questions if you dont mind answering.. im 3 weeks post op
from (upper ,lower, chin, wisdom teeth)

1, I feel stiff around my lips, is this normal ?

2, My surgeon lets me take the bands off during the day. I still cant speak clearly 3 weeks on, it is getting better but im paranoid this will be permanant ? when could you talk clearly again ?

3, I still have stitches in my mouth, these are disolvable. When do they go ?

4, I also keep getting a pulling like feeling in my left jaw that sometimes cracks, mostly when eating. I think im chewing not realising im doing it.. anyone else had this ?

    thanks

    1. Definitely, completely normal for this early in recovery

    2. It all depends on how your jaw is healing, but again completely normal for this early in recovery

    3. I don't remember exactly when mine went away, but I never really felt them anyway, so they should be dissolving anytime now.

    4. I didn't experience anything like this but I was also wired shut for the first 5 weeks.

Hi there- I am 2.5 months post-op for upper and lower:

1, I felt the right right of my lips/chin/cheek was numb and did not move much at 3 weeks. With time the numbness has subsided and my smile is coming back. My surgeon said it takes about 6 weeks for the muscles around your mouth to come back to life.

2, I had a splint on the first 3 weeks and was banded together. It took probably 5 weeks to start feeling like my speech was close to normal.

3, Mine were disolveable. It took 4-6 weeks for them to disolve on their own.

4, I felt a pop sound when I yawned, not when I chewed. Be careful not to chew...be aware. Chewing too early can be more harmful.

Good luck in your recovery, it gets better. :)

It's only 3 wks, you should not chew at this early stage. It's too risky!
