Hello all you fellow orthognathic surgery peeps! I am almost 4 weeks out and I have some questions. I had upper and lower jaw surgery. They broke my upper and made it wider and broke my lower to level it out and reduced my chin aswell. I was banded the 1st day then they broke while i was still in the hospital (stayed 2 nights) and the doctors said that i didnt need them cause i was bitting into the splint just fine. I was put on a liquid/soft food diet and I must say that i followed direction for the 1st 2 weeks cause my recovery was down right painful and miserable. But now, I have managed to eat tons. I make sure that i sont chew the food. I just mush it up on the plastic splint on the roof of my mouth. Do you suppose that is bad? Also, I get these wierd muscle spasms where jaw will get tense and it kinda hurts. Ok, and I also wanted to know if anyone broke out after sugery? My complexion is fairly good on a normal day but now it seems as if I have lots of red bumps on my face and my jaw line. I was wondering if I am the only one. I think that may be it for now.

Brandon, I wanted to thank you for taking all this time out of your life to respond and keep us all posted. Your videos really helped me! I thought to do something similiar but I didnt have the dedication or energy to do a good job. SO thank you!

    Hello Crystal,

Congrats on a successful surgery! I didn't have the splint in after my surgery, but as long as you are sticking to soft foods, as directed, that you can mash up with your tongue, you should be fine.

I got a few of the spasms you are talking about, but they passed quickly and didn't really become an issue for me, so I figured it was just a symptom of my jaw muscles readjusting to actually moving again, after being wired shut for weeks.

And yes, I definitely broke out a lot in those first few weeks after surgery, and my skin was extra oily, but that too went away as recovery continued.

My pleasure, I absolutely love doing it and am so thankful for the community that has formed, because I know how much it helps and supports past, current, and future jaw surgery patients.

Keep us posted on your recovery, and good luck!
