Hi Everyone! Just had a bilateral sagital split osteotomy and genioplasty. Happy to notice the swelling is greatly reduced. Have just 2 elastics and docotor said I might not need more. How long do these usually stay on? Also, how long until being able to eat regularly again? I understand it's a process and has to start with small pieces. One, last question.. How long until you can go back to work? Might be adjusted for me as I'm a Therapy Aide and personal trainer so I'm real active. Thanks!

I had my lower jaw moved forward, and chin slightly reduced. I wore 2 elastics for 2 weeks, and then they were removed for good. After they were removed I could return to a normal diet and eat whatever was comfortable. Obviously when you get your elastics off you don't eat steak or anything hard, but you start with softer things (or anything you find comfortable enough to eat. Chicken can be great as long as it's tender and small enough to chew slowly and easily) and move your way up. No nuts or carrots or anything.

In the summer I work a pretty physical job. I took 3 weeks off, probably could have been back to work in 2 weeks.

Thanks thatguy. That helps alot. I'm at almost 11 days now. I had the same thing.. lower jaw moved forward and slight chin reduction. Still numb in the lower lip and chin so hope that doesn't last too much longer. Your right, I should start off small and work up as far as the eating. All I can do now is jello and pudding so hope I can eat more soon. Thanks
