Hi Julie - I'm a 45 year old male and I'm scheduled for double jaw surgery plus genioplasty on June 6, 2011. There was no hesitation for me because I've been living with severe sleep apnea for most of my life. My opinion is don't wait, just do it. Good luck!

Update for those who are questioning when to return to work. I am at the 4 week mark and I can tell you that I am definitely not ready to return to work. On Sunday, I went grocery shopping for my dad and spent some time with my grandsons. Granted, it was a more physical day--I did pick them up a few times (twin boys )and went for a walk around the block, but the next day, I felt SO tired!!! All I did yesterday was lay around the house. So I realize that I am good for short spurts of activity and mild exertion, but my overall stamina is still lacking. Got to say though, I feel good, and don't regret for a minute having the surgery!!!

    Hi there
I am delighted (and jealous in a nice way .. )that you have "got the job done" and hope that your recovery continues to go well even if it's not as quick as you would like. You just need to rest and do what you feel you can do. I think it is fairly normal to feel tired for a long time after this kind of surgery. It took me 6 months to 'really' get over surgery I had as a young woman - and it wasn't for anything serious.
I see the specialist next week and so I'll be sure to let you know how I get on. Fingers crossed.
Very best wishes to you and thanks for the updates ... keep em coming ..

.. and Hi Mcbannon ... mmmm genioplasty ...had to look that one up! YES, indeed, I could do with that too! My chin is like Bruce Forsyth's .. far too long. If you are from the UK, you'll know who I'm talking about, .. if not, errmmm, trying to think of an American icon with a long chin ... what about Sammy Davis Junior? Didn't he have a long chin?
Maybe I'll ask about getting that done too!

    Kind regards
    Julie
