Why do I feel like I've had Botox that went wrong?!?! I don't actually know what Botox feels like but my natural look right now looks like I'm pouting. I have a downward mouth, will this ever go away?????? I'm hoping it's due to the extreme numbness of my lower lip and chin! I don't want people to look at me and think I'm sad :(

I know exactly how you feel! My mouth made me look really miserable as the corners of my mouth were pointing down. They're not any more though. It will get better! I am almost seven weeks post op and got really miserable during week three as recovery seemed to slow down. I found weeks 4-5 were when I saw some real improvements. I got the feeling back in my lips and got much better control of my face. Take photographs every couple of days and when you look back at today's photo in a couple of weeks you'll see how far you've come. Hang in there! :-)

Hey thanks Rachel! Up until about week 2 I was incredibly positive and not worried about too much as my recovery I considered to be going really well compared to others. But I've noticed in the last few days I'm becoming a bit depressed and discouraged. The numbess is insane and the pressure and tightness in my jaw joints, temples etc are crazy! I'm glad to know my pout will go away :) Yay! I know it's early, surgery was only on the 6th of July and I had ALOT done. They removed bone from my upper jaw, cut the lower and moved it forward as well as cut my chin and moved that forward too. I guess I just didn't expect such a long haul. You almost wonder if it would be better to have a rough first few weeks and get it over with instead of months of painfully slow recovery....

you had the same surgery as me by the sound of things. It does get you down as it drags on for such a long time. I'm giving myself until Christmas to make a full recovery. The tightness in your face and the feeling like your head is going to explode will go away eventually. I've still got pretty sore teeth and numb cheeks, nose and chin but it's still improving. As I'm sure you will too. Try not to get despondent. It's not easy I know

Hey Rachel, do you have any before and after photos of yourself on this site?

Hi Kevin, yes, they're here. http://www.jawsurgeryblog.com/forums/topic/five-weeks-post-op-before-and-after-pics-and-xrays
Need to update my after pics though as my swelling has gone down loads in the last week or so!Posted 9 months ago # -
haha HulaMommy thats so funny I had the exact same thing! People thought I had botox and my lips were being pushed down like I was forcing them to pout instead of sitting natrually on my face. Its only because of the swelling. My lips just one day started to relax and went back to normal. Even now there still a little bit botoxy, but the more days pass the more they loosen up. You will not look like that forever!

I'm so glad I joined this site! Nice to have some reassurance :) I was hoping that once my lip regained some feeling my pout would go away. It's still early and I'm anxious and getting impatient but I do remind myself that not only did they cut my lower jaw in 4 places but they moved my chin forward too so no wonder I'm numb and my face won't do what I want it to!

Hello HulaMommy!! I hope that your numbness eventually goes away and you are happy with the outcome!! I am a surgical technology student in Clinton Township, Michigan. I am doing an assignment and trying to find a patient who has underwent a surgical procedure that wouldn't ming ansering a few questions about it. Nothing personal!! I just need to ask about the surgery itself, the reasons you did it, any healing or complications....things of this nature. Is there any way you would be willing to help me out with this?? I really appreciate any help you can offer. : ) My email is Sweetrobin813@yahoo.com Thank you so much!!!

FYI HulaMommy, my lips were still tight in the third week. They started loosening up for me the first couple of days into my fourth week so you'll be there soon. It dosent loosen up all at once though.
