    I have a question,I am supposed to have my jaw surgery in abt a year to correct my underbite and cross bite.During my initial consultation,my oral surgeon did say dat my face was assyemtrical as in the left portion of my jaw was a lil longer dan my right but I had never noticed it.However ,its now abt 7 months of braces and preparing for the jaw surgery and I am noticing a great deal of assymetry in my face,I feel as if my left cheekbone is lower dan my right and my jaw is tilted to one side.Is it the braces ?is this even possible (cos as of now all that my orthodontist is doin now is tryin 2 align my teeth)?

    Hi Chip,

    It's very likely that you are just beginning to notice it more and more, because of the upcoming surgery and thinking about it more, though it's always a good idea to bring up any concerns with your orthodontist and/or surgeon.

    hi,
    thank you for replyin so promptly ,I do appreciate it.I did try askin my orthodontist's assistant and she did say dat my face shape would change slightly cos dey r moving the teeth.I did want 2 ask my orthodontist but he's so buzy, he jus comes to check on my progress n den leaves.He expects me to trust him blindly or dats d vibe I get from him. He does not invite any inquiries and seems annoyed wen I pry in to wat hes doin or how long its goin2 take or ny such questions but otherwise hes AMAZING!!! And my oral surgeon is a lil far from where I live so, kinda lazy to go ask him.My next appointment with him would prolly b wen m nearing d surgery.
    Aneways,its jus I feel my pictures are coming very different esp my jaw area.
    Mybe chewing on one side ( cos after I put on braces I sumhow feel comfy chewin on one side over d other)b d reason?

    My pleasure, Chip, glad to help.

    As far as your whole jaw moving, I haven't really heard of that with just braces, but it's completely normal for your teeth to move and even make your bite a little worse, because the braces are aligning your teeth for your new bite, instead of your current jaw position.

    I wish your orthodontist was more receptive to questions, as that can make things much more pleasant throughout the process, and perhaps you can try and communicate with him more, but I'll be glad to help in any way I can in the meantime.
