Asymmetry and TMJ

I'm hoping to get surgery in the next year or so. I have bad TMJ and slight asymmetry (unilateral condylar hyperplasia). Does anyone on this forum have any experience with TMJ and orthognathic surgery? My pain is quite disruptive to my everyday life. I really hope jaw surgery helps with my pain and function.

Any help or comments is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

I didn't have TMJ, but I did have a big underbite and crossbite, making for a significant asymmetry.

If you haven't seen already, you can watch my entire video log of my process here:

Almost everyone I've talked to is 100% satisfied with the results and glad they went ahead with the surgery. I know it increased my functionality dramatically, as far as eating and chewing goes.

If you have any other questions, just let us know, and keep us updated on your process...

I have slight TMJ, the clicking- a LOT of clicking- but some bad pain here and there. I take 1/2 a vicadin that I have left from wisdom teeth surgery (i hate vicadin. makes me feel all sick and yucky. lol). As for a cross bite, I do too. not too severe, more of a under-bite problem.

What they are going to do to me is get 2 very small metal bars and have them on either side of my lower connecting to my upper. I think that is what's going to keep my cross bit in check after surgery. I'm not sure if you would go through the same thing, but some info couldn't hurt.

    Hey!
I am JoAnna-20 yrs. old, and I have a Class 3 under-bite.I'm having maxillofacial jaw surgery(the top and bottom jaw surgery-but I'll have my chin adjusted as well)and got my braces 5/21/10.
My surgery date is Valentine's Day 2012. Super excited =D
