    Hey Everyone,

First off, thanks Brandon for putting together this site. It has been such a big help to me before and during my recovery.

I am 16 days out from surgery. Every thing went well, but my surgeon mentioned that during surgery there was a bit of damage to my nerve on my left side of my face and that there is a slight chance full feeling will not return to the right side of my chin. I appreciate his honesty with me. I know doctors are suppose to tell you the worst case scenario, but I am confident I will regain 100% feeling.

I still have a good amount of swelling in my checks and lips. I am numb from the sides of my nose and inside cheeks, down to my chin (pretty much down the middle of my face). Although, there is a spot on the left center of my upper lip that has already gain feeling back!

My question though has to do with asymmetry. When I talk, the right side of my mouth goes higher then my left. In fact, it seems the right side of my face is stronger than my left at this point (although i can smile normally). I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with something like this, where it seems one side is healing at a different rate than the other.

Thanks everyone and good luck with your surgeries!

    Hey Jason,

    Congrats on a successful surgery!

It's great that your surgeon was open and honest with you, and that's the right attitude to have that it's still entirely possible that you'll gain all the feeling back anyway.

It's totally normal for different parts of your jaw and face to be healing and waking up at different rates, as I had a lot of uneven healing, especially in my lips that I thought meant I had lost feeling here or there, but it eventually all evened out.

Good luck with the rest of recovery, and keep us updated...

Thanks for the reply Brandon, I appreciate it. Seems like it's a long haul for recovery and do get nervous about things so early on is silly. I am glad to hear that uneven healing seems normal. I'll make sure to update you guys when my wires come off this week. thanks again!

    Hi Jason,
So... how is it going? Has the numbness subsided - do you have feeling?

It is almost 2 months after my surgery. I can see an asymmetry when talking. I asked my surgeon about he told me that my muscle need to get use to my new bone structure. My mouth still moves the way it used to when I had an overbite. I don't really care. I'm happy that now I can smile :-D. I knew I have to be patience. My upper gum is still numb but the feeling is coming back.
