My name is Maranda I am having upper jaw advancement surgery soon to correct my class III malocclusion (SP?) underbite. I got braces in March of 2009 (20 months ago)and was soo so happy to be getting them. I am 22 years old and have avoided pictures, smiling, laughing etc. my whole life due to my insecurity of my teeth. I had a lot of crowding on the top of my teeth (couldn't find any pictures of that) but I had to get six teeth pulled to get my braces initially put on. My arches instead of being a "U" shape were more like a rounded "V" shape, and my underbite is/was so bad that you could not see any of my top teeth when I smiled. My lower teeth were straight but arched up like an "n" shape which the braces have fixed. Currently I have one tooth to get aligned and I am ready for surgery. I also have a slight crossbite.. when I find a picture that shows it Ill post.

this is me before my braces... my bottom teeth completely overlap my top which at the time i liked because my top teeth were crowded and weird

this is me a few months after getting braces

my underbite is getting worse from the braces

the surgeon told me that the bite alignment of the teeth after months of braces..is the alignment needed for the new jaw position not the old...that's why its protruding now slightly and looking wrong...once they do the op the teeth will be perfect for the newly aligned jaw;) i think your outcome will be wow! since you already have a great face!

i had upper & lower jaw surgery jan 2011. upper projected 8mm lower projected 3mm.

I agree, your transformation is going to be amazing, can't wait to see the results!

I'm Brandon, the creator of JawSurgeryBlog.com. I personally had upper and lower jaw surgery on October 30, 2007. Thankfully, everything went beautifully, so I'm trying to make sure everyone else's surgery goes smoothly as well!

You will DEFINITELY have an amazing transformation and appearance post-op. I can tell your nose will likely be quite attractive post-op as well. Same situation with my nose actually - it looks quite "flat" due to mid-face being far back.

How much longer until surgery? You've already had braces on for 20 months?

I am looking forward to seeing your after photos since when reading your post I realized that I am in a very similar situation:

    - I am having upper jaw advancement surgery soon to correct my class III malocclusion
    - I got braces 12 months ago
    - and was soo so happy to be getting them.
    - I am 22 years old and have avoided pictures, smiling, laughing etc. my whole life due to my insecurity of my teeth.
    - I had (still have, though) a lot of crowding on the top of my teeth but I had to get six teeth pulled to get my braces initially put on.
    - my underbite is/was so bad that you could not see (almost) any of my top teeth when I smiled.
    - I am male :P

See, quite a lot of similarities!

Are they moving your lower jaw back too or only advancing the upper jaw?

I would assume mcwoof13 meant only her upper jaw is being advanced. To me, it looks her lower jaw has grown properly already, but I'm no expert or anything. As for me, I was told that there's a 99% chance that only my upper jaw will be operated on, since my lower jaw has grown properly. I even signed a paper agreeing to an amount of money for upper jaw surgery, not lower jaw so I suppose the only reason I would need lower jaw surgery is if for example my braces cause dramatic changes to my lower jaw or something which is unlikely.

Okay so its now eight months later and I have had braces for 31 months now... My teeth are straight but my underbite is still horrible. The Army tried to get out of doing my surgery after stringing me along for almost three years but my persistence has paid off! I did nothing short of harassing the oral surgery department to get my surgery (that I've been wanting since age 10) which would complete this process and finally give me the face/smile that I've dreamed of. Ive began modeling a couple of months ago and although others think Im beautiful I am so self concious of my skeletal appearance. My profile is where you see it the most. I am officially having surgery this friday at 0700! In less than 48 hours I will be recovering from my la fort 1 upper jaw advancement surgery. Im going to upload more recent pictures in the before and after section.

Congratulations Miranda, I also think you're beautiful, but for modeling you also will need to believe it (not too much :) ), so I think this will help you a lot to get the confidence needed. Good luck with your surgery. I hope to see pictres soon!
