Sorry if I keep creating new topics. I just have a few different questions that I would like to put different topic titles for, to grab attention from as many as possible. I was wondering if anybody has any favorites for what to eat through a straw. Soups, yogurts, yeah I know the basics, I want i know if anyone has found a blend of things that is pleasing to the palate. Texture is a big part of food, so when you make it mush, you don't have many options. If you have found something, or heard of a product, or your own recipe, please feel free to help me with that too!

Hi There
I remembered my surgeon telling me that I was not suppose to "suck" that why they gave me the syringes and I got a the squeeze bottle. Although the best way for me to eat was to use a cup and put it as close to my mouth and make the liquid go through the holes between my teeth. XD

Custard :) Always my fave. And home made oreo milkshakes, warmed up. Those were awesome.
As for savoury stuff, you could blend your regular meals and just sieve them, you might come across something you like. I really liked bolognaise sauce blended up (the recipe we have is full of peppers/carrots/meat/tomatoes... it's not like some of the plain meatball/ketchup looking things I've seen others make :S)
If you're into spicy stuff, Thai soup and tobasco :D
Blended weetabix and jam was a fave of mine for a while. VERY filling mind you, and you got to drink it fast before it hardens lol.

cream of wheat; oatmeal; homemade applesauce (or store bought although you can add some texture by making it yourself); rice or tapioca pudding. These are just a few things with texture that help. You can also try mashed potatoes with chives for added texture.

How does everyone get on with syringes , they are driving me to distraction. I'm in the uk and no one stocks zip n squeeze. We are going to experiment with piping bags tomorrow, see if I can get something in my stomach a little more substantial x
Bsso for overbite on 21st December. Lower advanced 8mm upper impacted by 3mm and moved forward 2mm.Posted 4 months ago # -
Hi Donna, syringes suck! I ditched mine and use condiment bottles instead. They don't clog and can fit thicker stuff than a syringe. Here's an example:

On 12/28/11 I had a 4 piece LeFort 1 procedure done to correct an open bite.

Squeeze bottles FTW! Lol def gonna grab a couple tomorrow. My problem is I literally can't have ANYTHING with ANY texture, or anything thicker than an egg nog-like consistency. Like I just made Broccoli and cheddar soup. But I had to add double milk, and I had to completely strain it, leaving behind much cheese flavor, and all broccoli pieces. Leaving me with a milked down bowl of cheese drink lol.

Ahhh brilliant. Going on the hunt for some now, can't wait to ditch those stupid syringes, I got so frustrated yesterday trying to eat, I gave up and just cried instead lol
Thanks for the tip x

I am an incredible picky eater, so it was a huge challenge for me when i was only allowed liquid. 2 things I enjoyed was yougurt with a fruit puree, it was good when they weren't fully mush, it made it a little less boring. And a banana milk shake, i blended 1 banana a scoop of ice cream, a table spoon of honey, milk and sometimes 2 table spoon of a protein powder, that was reallyy good, and the bananas are really nutrient rich, and this was pretty high in calories.
mash potato was good, although I found it a bit difficult to suck through a straw, you can experiment alot with potato, you can add cheese and all sorts of other vegetables, just make sure you add enough milk and cream. :)Lower Jaw Advancement SurgeryPosted 4 months ago # -
Guys get yourself a squeezy bottle as suggested above. My hubby just got me 2 and I'm smashing up my syringes with joy. They work brilliantly x
