So I'm getting married this summer and just had jaw surgery 7 weeks ago. I was wondering, is it safe to have Botox after jaw surgery? I hear it's safe but not sure if it's safe after jaw surgery.

Also curious if laser or other facial treatments such as chemical peels are safe after jaw surgery.

Double jaw surgery on 12/17/11. BSSO mandibular advancement of 10 mm; two-piece le fort 1 with 3 mm impaction and maxilla brought forward 1 mm.

Well, yesterday I was reading a blog of a girl who did botox (by her surgeon), but that was at 4 months post op and she needed it cuz of spasms. I would call my surgeon and ask him about it. Best of luck.

Great results on the photos by the way! :)

    Hi Tara

How did you get on on Monday?

I was wondering about laser surgery on my face. I've had it before due to suffering with Rosacea (sun bed lover in my younger days!). My skin has been great for years and since having surgery its horrendous. I think the skin being stretched to capacity has not done it any favours, be interested to hear what your surgeon says x

Bsso for overbite on 21st December. Lower advanced 8mm upper impacted by 3mm and moved forward 2mm.

Donna - my surgeon said that lasers should probably wait for now due to the hypersensitivity that I'm still experiencing. However, once the sensitivity resolves, there will be no problem with lasers. All other treatments are ok.

On a side note, not sure if you've heard of this before but you should look into taking BioSil supplements. You can get them from GNC. My hairstylist actually told me about it because my hair thinned a little after surgery. It helps grow collagen and she had several clients who took it after major surgeries and they swore by it. I noticed when I picked up the bottle from GNC that it's also great for nails and skin. It claims to improve skin elasticity, grown thicker hair and strengthen nails. The lady working at GNC (nutritional supplement store) said it works well!

Hi Tara. Thanks for info. I'm liking the sound of that. My hair has been pretty poor condition since surgery too. Off to have a look on line.

How are you feeling now? I'm finding if increasingly hard to stay positive and chirpy. Had enough of tight elastics, trying to chew and looking weird. I keep thinking I should be looking and feeling normal (ish) for week 7. :-/

Eating is more of a chore than a pleasure right now. It gets stuck everywhere and it seems more hassle than it's worth with all the band changing and cleaning regime. Listen to me grumpy cow lol x

Donna, I had this very same question! Please let me know if you ever get an answer. I was also wondering about laser hair removal on the face: it's been 3 weeks since my surgery, and I fear turning into the bearded lady.

It's been a week but... I spoke with my surgeon and my orthodontist. Both inform that laser skin treatments (e.g. hair removal) anywhere and botox not in the area of the surgery should be fine. You might check with your doctors, as well.
