First off, I'm so thrilled to come across a place like this because for something on this scale, we all need as much support as we can get! Luckily, I do know a couple people that have had this procedure. But I still have something that's really bothering me and keeping me up at night thinking about.

I've been told by my sister-in-law that post-procedure, she would wake up panicking because she felt that she was suffocating. Her nasal passages had been so swollen that she couldn't really breathe through her nose, but because of the wiring, she couldn't easily breathe through her teeth, either. She had legitimate fears of "oh my gosh, I really can't breathe." This makes me incredibly nervous... I still have a few months before my procedure date arrives, but it only gives me more time for concern. I've always had allergies which make it hard to breathe through my nose 95% of the time. I don't know if I'll handle that same suffocating feeling well at all. I'm curious how to maybe avoid or at least help this potential issue?

Hey Scaputo. I wanted to tell you that yes you may have some breathing problems but your surgeon should give you all the stuff you need to help you with that problem. I was given instructions to clean out my nose with a half peroxide half warm water solution. Just get a cotton swab and clean out the dried blood with it. And if that don't help, it is also necessary to use saline solution. You can use the saline solution anytime you feel that your nose is dry. I also found it helpful when I was wired shut to use a humidifier. The cool air seems to keep you calm. Oh and also I was given Sudafed for children to help with my stuffy nose. That helped alot too. Hope this eases your concerns a little better.
