Hi everyone,
So I'm little over 2 moths post op now and am happy with my results. Yesterday my surgeon cleared me to start eating normally again. Right now it feels very weird when i chew and part of this is because my lower lip and chin area is still kinda numb. I know that chewing again is gonna take some time to get used because of the new position of my jaws. I was wondering how long it was before chewing felt "normal". Also when eating I also seem to get food stuck in the sides of my mouth like in my cheeks, has this happened to anyone else.
Thanks :)

i'm sure each day your bite and jaw will be stronger and soon enough you'll be able to eat everything you used to.
I'm less then 3 weeks post op and wired shut and really craving ribs. Once you do recover fully in this aspect, please let us know how long it took!

hi well i am about 6 weeks post op now, i was wired for 5... and well i was able to eat the day i got my wires off and i found that the more i kept eating the easier it got so i suggest just keep eating the things that dont bother you and everyday you will progress. i kept getting food stuck in the side of my mouth as well.

i'm almost ten weeks post op and slowly chewing stuff although it takes sooooo long! I end up just swallowing stuff almost whole and getting indigestion! I can use my back teeth better than my front ones and haven't been able bite into anything yet if you know what I mean? I tried to bite through a piece of cucumber but i just left teeth marks on it as i don't seem to be able to put much pressure on my front teeth. I cut it in half and was able to put it to the back of my mouth and i managed to chew it just fine.
I feel like I've got pockets at the back of my mouth on the bottom where food gets lodged. My back brackets are really lodged in there after they moved my jaw back. No idea how they're going to be able to get them off!
Just stick at it with the chewing. I have days when I get really frustrated. It'll get better though :-)Posted 9 months ago # -
