It could very well be getting your braces on. Maybe top brace first and then bottom brace or something :)

I know what you mean mastering hiding your overbite. I had an 11mm overbite and could hide it pretty well, but now it's 1000x easier having it in the proper position anyway :D

I thought it may be spacers first then braces?
Yeah I constantly push my lower jaw out to compensate, I actually think I'd really struggle to speak not doing it of that makes sense xx
No room for my tongue x

13mm overjet. Lower jaw advancement & possible genio.

So my spacers were put in last Thursday, not nearly as bad as imagined! Braces both go on this Thursday, any tips? Scared I'll struggle to speak at first...

    Hi Chezza!
I too have an overbite, am due for surgery March 2nd. As far as your braces go are they being put on in two stages or all in one go? It will be quite uncomfortable to begin with so make sure you have plenty of pain relief, paracetamol/ibuprofen worked fine for me aswell as soft foods for the first week or so. With the pressure of the braces it can make chewing a little painful.

Did the ortho give you any wax? If so just roll some into a ball and pop it on the wire to protect your cheek, if you havent got any wax I personally found that the wax on the outter of a babybell worked fine..desperate times!!
If im honest I tried not to cover the pokey out bits (if the pain was bearable) as my cheek eventually got used to the wire rubbing and it wasnt as painful.
How are you feeling? Is it as bad as you thought?

I was more concerned about how I'd look but I honestly don't care now that they are on. They are just so uncomfortable and I cant bite properly which is really annoying.
The ortho gave me wax but it keeps falling off, think I'll just grin & bear it x
Also both top & bottom were put on today, braves hurt more than spacers on my opinion.
How long have you had your braces on? You in the uk? X

Hows the discomfort today?? Any better after 24hours?
You will get used to it, I know everyone says it and it seems like a stupid thing to say, but eventually you wont even be able to notice your braces in your mouth. I think the grin and bear it thing can be one of the best things to do, once youve scratched the crap out of your cheek it tends to get used to it and doesnt hurt anymore. As your teeth are pushed back you'll have excess wire poking out of the back anyway.

Yeah I'm in the UK, will have had my braces on two years in April, am due for surgery on March 2nd

Loads better today thanks, went to Ortho today and she trimmed my lower wire. My cheek has a bog ulcery hole now but the rest is much better having the wire trimmed. No pain unless I try to chew something so all good. Surprised how little tooth pain there is actually!!

It's been a long journey for you then, you must be excited with the end just around the corner :o)
