    Hi Everyone,

I had MMA surgery back on Oct. 11, 2010. Both upper and lower jaw surgery. 14mm advancement. 35 year old female. Am healing beautifully and back in the world. :)

My goal in this surgery was to cure my severe sleep apnea. By moving both jaws forward, it expanded my airway 3 times the size. I am now sleeping normally, and my most recent sleep study in March 2011 claims, "This patient does not fit the criteria for sleep disordered breathing!" Am cured and as happy as can be. :)

    I had a severe underbite.

Wishing everyone else a great success too. Wow it has been a long journey and recovery.....but so worth the end result. 3 more weeks and my braces come off. Yahoo! Christina :)

hi cnelson24 - I'm having the exact same thing done on June 6, 2011 for the exact same reason. So you're glad you did it? I haven't slept in 25 years.

Hey mk, how did it go? I'm joining the bandwagon too, doing it for sleep apnea reasons. My surgery is scheduled for the 21st of June. I had a few failed attempts, being sick and whatnot, so we'll see if it happens this time.

Hi mk and muggsie- so glad I did it. Sure was a tough process to go through with the recovery and all. Wishing you both a swift recovery. Let me know how you are recovering! The outcome of overcoming sleep apnea was my goal, and was obtained!

Hi, I'm getting ready to go through the same exact surgery for the same exact issue. Any encouraging words?

Hi Nortond! Just remember the reason you are going through the surgery. It is a long recovery, so just remember that part! Remember to stay on top of your painkillers and have someone there to help you 24/7 for the first 7 days if you can. I just responded to another post with a list of helpful hints:

Let me know if you have more questions! Wishing you great success, Christina :)
