I found a great tool to clean behind and around the splint - a sulcabrush. It has 2 small tips that are placed at different angles, making it perfect to reach difficult places. The only drawback is that the bristles are very stiff and you need to be careful around your gums, especially ones that are numb.

I ordered mine from dentakit.com but they also sell them on amazon.com. No stores near me carry them, unfortunately.

On 12/28/11 I had a 4 piece LeFort 1 procedure done to correct an open bite.

that's awesome BaliGirl. I have been using Colgate Wisps which work great too. During the first week of recovery when I couldn't fit a toothbrush back there, I used it to clean the splint, the back of my teeth and my tongue. They cost about $1-2 each I think.

Double jaw surgery on 12/17/11. BSSO mandibular advancement of 10 mm; two-piece le fort 1 with 3 mm impaction and maxilla brought forward 1 mm.

I forgot about Colgate Wisps - great idea! They have the advantage that you can buy them at any store.
