  1. Hey all!

My first post here...thanks for inviting me over Brandon!

I will be having upper, lower & genio on October 11th and have a question for those surgery vets.

I will be in the hospital for most likely only one night. I live three hours away from the hospital. Will I be OK to ride in a car for three hours the day after surgery to go home or should I plan on staying in a hotel?

    Trying to plan ahead.

    Thanks!

Hi Mandy....I had the same situation, the hospital where I had to have the surgery was 4 hours away. The doctor knowing this prescribed something...can't remember now exactly what it was...but it knocked me out for most of the trip. The nurse gave me the shot just before I left my room. I slept most of the way and when I was awake for the last hour....I was quite relaxed and just fine. ...so you might to talk to your doctor and let him know that you have to travel a distance to get home after surgery.

You should allow about 2-4 weeks if possible to be sure your mentally and physically ready, but some people are ready much sooner or later, so it really just depends on your case and healing speed.

I remember feeling extremely dizzy when I was on a moving vehicle in the first 6 weeks or so after jaw surgery.

I felt better after my wires were removed and I started to eat more. Maybe it is the lack of nutrition? I don't know for sure.
