    Hi guys

    I have a pretty severe underbite and openbite and as a result am very conscious of my prominent chin. I was teased about it in school and the emotional scarring doesnt really ever go away, so I'm super excited about getting the surgery.

    But i'm just wondering if it will make my chin appear anyway smaller?
    Im praying that it will as it makes my life really tough at the moment.

    Any thoughts on the subject would be great :)

    Well I had an overbite, and I wouldn't say it changed my life having the surgery, but changed my quality of life yea.

    I got teased about my overbite a bit in school, and was super concious about it and my gummy smile, but now I've received so many compliments about how much better I look, and tonight I met up with a few friends and told them my braces are coming off a week on Tuesday and they were saying how good I'll look without them etc.

    I'm still getting used to it a bit. Obviously remembering how it was in the past doesn't go away easily. If I'm out with friends, it can sometimes take a while to remember I don't look how I looked now.

    As to how your chin will look, hard to say really.

    I strongly recommend you discuss your concerns with your surgeon so that they know what you are expecting. From what I've seen people can have a huge change depending on their pre surgery circumstances ie: this girl had a phenomenal result: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSm9rJ2siaw&;

    Surgery can't make you happy. That has to come from you. I got bullied at school about my underbite and was always concious of it but learned to accept that it was who I was and that I was beautiful both inside and out (sounds cheesy I know)
    I had my underbite corrected age 34 and yes, I'm no longer concious about it but it's not made me happy. I've always been happy, just happened to have an underbite.
    You can't rely on surgery to change how you feel about yourself overall but yes, it does make you a litlle less self concious having good teeth once you get used to the fact your face is diffent. I'm seven months post op and only just getting used to it now
