I have a pretty mild underbite I think. I mean, it's not too bad and I have fixed my bite with braces. My teeth are all nice and straight, my bottom teeth and slightly behind my upper teeth where they should be and my ortho said that I'd be ready for surgery when I stop growing which I think I did. The thing is, I've been reading all these Posts about people who have class III underbites and what not and that their only choice was surgery. Mines honestly not that bad so I've been wondering if I really need surgery.
It's just that I have a low self esteem because of my pointy chin. It really does not look good in pictures at all. I have absolutely no medical reason for the surgery besides the occasional jaw popping so it would be strictly cosmetic.
In my case, would the surgery be worth it as in, should my parents have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for a cosmetic surgery? Does it dramatically change your appearance that much and will it if your case is pretty mild?

I don't think any of us went into this surgery lightly. It is a major op and a long recovery, so you need to know your doing the right thing.
For me personally I wished I had done this 20 years ago, I'm 40 now. Still waiting to see final results as km still very swollen. I am hopeful that in a few months I will be more confident speaking to people, I will be able to eat properly for the first time ever and hopefully I will have eliminated any future problems that occur in later life from having these malocclusions.
