Hey guys, my name is Josh and I'm going to be getting double jaw surgery on August 10th which is in like 2 days! I'm getting my surgery done by Dr. Joseph Mauro in Lansing, Michigan (where I live).

What's going to happen to me is my upper jaw will get moved forward, if I recall correctly, roughly 8mm and my lower jaw will go back about 4mm. I'm also going to get a Genioplasty to bring my chin out a little bit, but I'm not sure how much. Apparently my lower jaw is too thin for me to get BSSO surgery, which is what most people get where plates are used to reattach the jaw, but another version of jaw surgery called IVRO surgery. I guess with this surgery the lower jaw is cut further back close to the joint, so as to prevent nerve damage. The downside is though, that I have to be wired shut for 6 weeks because the jaw isn't actually going to reattached, but the bones will fuse each other back together which is kind of freaky when I think about it.

I'm pretty freaked out in general about the whole process, but I know it's going to be so worth it. I have a pretty bad under bite, so it's harder for me to talk and eat and I'm not a fan of my profile. The anticipation is getting really bad though, and the whole fact that I'm getting a less common type of jaw surgery doesn't help.

Has anyone had surgery similar to mine, specifically the whole IVRO part? I'm just worried about it because everyone I know who has had jaw surgery had the other version. So, be free to share any experiences any of you have had, I'd be glad to read them. If you have any tips/suggestions to help me through everything too that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
