    Hello,

Just had my double surgery on Friday the 14th... lower was a maybe and my surgeon decided to do it during the operation. I am in very little pain with lots of pressure and swelling. The resident at Kaiser Oakland told me that everything looks great and that my swelling is very minimal compared to the other patients.

I have some videos, how do I post them on here? Do I need to link them from another hosting site?

--- This has not been as bad as I expected. I am not hurting, and I am eating yummy protein shakes. Sleeping 5+ hours a night.

I cannot wait until next tuesday when I meet with my surgeon to get unwired!

    Good luck to everyone

Congrats on the surgery :) At least it's not as bad as you thought. I went in to mine with little, to no, preparation on reading up what I was gonna be like after it, so once I got out of hospital it was a bit overwhelming.

For videos you'd need to upload them to Youtube or something, then link them here. Images you'll need to put them on something like Photobucket.

The only negative thing is that I have had a couple of panic attacks from not being able to breath. Benadryl helps as does the prescribed nasal spray. I know it sounds gross; but I hav found that extracting the stuff from my nose with sterile tweezers also helps

I have to be honest thats what has worried me. I live on my own so it's pretty scary thinking about coming home alone and feeling like that :-(

EvanP117, it's good to hear that you are not so swollen, because you'll be able to see the results sooner and that you are noy in much pain:congratulations!

    Abbil,
I cannot stress the importance of having someone there with you. YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED SOMEONE WITH YOU. You likely will not want to drink/ eat much. It helps to have someone watch after you who is familiar with the post surgical care.

    2 Questions:

is it normal to have a soft, strange feeling spot on the roof of your mouth, right? I just noticed it; I believe it is part of where the doctors cut the bone but I just want to be sure.

Did any of you also have the condition known as a 'tongue thrust'? I believe it may be fixed now but I won't be sure until I am unwired. Right now I am just practicing placing my tongue on the roof of my mouth when swallowing. (tongue thrust causes/ can cause an open bite)

Will post before & after videos and pics later tonight.

PS: as someone else mentioned on the forum, it is good to get hooked on a show or movie series! I have been watching 'breaking bad' and I love it. Thank you Netflix: Instant watch.

    Evan,

I mentioned Breaking Bad in another topic. There is not a better show on TV. I'm all caught up to Season 4 and now have to wait until next year for Season 5. I wonder if this feeling of withdrawl is what real meth addicts feel when they don't have their crystal? :)

On a more serious note, I too have a tongue thrust and had to teach myself how to keep my tongue on the roof of my mouth. It's a struggle sometimes as I feel like my tongue is too large for my mouth. I am having surgery to advance my upper and lower jaws forward. I am hoping that moving the jaws forward will create more space in my mouth and will make it easier to rest my tongue on the roof of my mouth. Your post seems to have confirmed my questions. Keep me updated.

    Ryan,
I felt exactly the same a you. Tongue too big. I can confirm that yes, it does seem to fit better now. The problem is the tenderness on the roof of the mouth right now. It is okay in the front of the roof though.

It is great to talk to fellows who suffer from the same problems as us! I feel way less alone. I also find it humorous that all of these 'problems' seem to go hand in hand.

Id like to find out what causes these jaw growth problems.

I am a premature baby (however I am 6'5"!), born at 28.5 weeks. I always have wondered if that had anything to do with all of this....

I never needed anyone to look after me! I was just fine looking after myselfon my own at home and prepared everything in advance before I went into hospital so I didn't have to worry. The only person who can ultimately look after you is yourself so Abbil, please don't think you can't do it alone. You can...and will have plenty of support here too :-)
