oh i hear you about not understanding....an example for me earlier......i blended up a chicken curry, wasnt easy to get down but i was determined lol anyhow my partner walked past me and picked up my towel to wipe my chin,i was unaware i was covered in food, with the numbness....now ofcourse he was trying to help but i hated him for trying to do that.i dont know why,but i think its because i felt un attractive and that "my lover" so to speak shouldnt be doing that......god knows what im going to be like when im old haha!

oh we will get through this one way or another...the craziness just helps :-) xx

With all the stories I've read here and elsewhere, I was skeptical that my surgeon said I wouldn't require any time at all in the hospital, that I wouldn't need to be wired/splinted, etc. As it turns out, he was right and no aspect of the surgery was anywhere near as bad as I had anticipated. The numbness was gone after three days and the swelling was 95% gone after less than two weeks. I can even chew extremely soft stuff now (15 days later) without any issues.

If I lower my head, there's still pressure in my face though. That just means the bone's not done healing (which is good, more time away from work :D)

I have to disagree with some of the other posters. For me, the surgery was much more painful than I expected. For the first 3 weeks after I had severe pain in my jaws and shooting pain in the nerves under my bottom teeth. My face felt like it was on fire at times. I had to remain on percocet. I would not go into surgery expecting not to have pain. My doctor and other people's posts online led me to believe this too which. They all said I would be numb and not feel anything. That was not the case at all. Afterwards my doctor said that everyone is different and some have more pain than others. I did have double jaw surgery, though. I'm happy that most others have not had to suffer the pain, but you have to be mentally prepared for it if it happens to you as well. Sorry if I'm scaring you! ;)

I had my upperjaw surgery november 21st. And i felt way better than i thought. I didnt have any pain, except the scar under my upperlip and some annoying swelling like everybody else. And some unpleasant 'pressure' on my upperjaw.
I am now back to work 2 weeks before they thought I would and the swelling has gone down alot. I would say I look like I did before, with some slight difference bc they moved the jaw, duuh lol.
And I had also watched way too many youtube clips about this, not the best way to get ready, haha.
I would say to think the worst, then everything will be so much easier :)

I'm on the other side of surgery now (I had a 4 piece LeFort done on Wed 12/28) and am very happy to report that my recovery has been much easier physically than I was expecting. I'm still early in the healing process and I know I have a long way to go, but I'm hopeful that things will continue to go well. I have some discomfort but no pain. Feeling is already starting to come back to my face and upper lip. I've gotten out and about every day since surgery which has been good for my spirits. I have also had a few mini-meltdowns already, all mental and set off by syringes that stick and the inability to eat out of said syringes. Grr.

On 12/28/11 I had a 4 piece LeFort 1 procedure done to correct an open bite.
