Maybe these have been answered before, but I just need a little support.

My daughter is 2 days post op. Severe underbite, and they moved her cheekbones a bit forward. Her doctor said no milk products the first week because he wanted to protect her gums, and the doc never mentioned that she shouldn't use straws, although I see it said here. She uses them carefully. We are home now.

She doesn't have much pain, and other than some motrin, she hasn't needed any pain medication since we came home. We heard motrin can cause some stomach upset so I am glad about that. But of course she is very swollen and looks miserable although she does not complain unless her nose is stuffed and then we give her liquid pseudoephedrine, and sometimes afrin, though we are trying to stay away from afrin because we do not want any rebound swelling.

My questions...What might be good to give her when she does take her medications, antibiotics, pseud, and motrin.? So her stomach won't get too upset. Of course we don't give them all together.

And what might be a good supplement to give her along with the clear-ish liquids? her juices and soups?

Is it really so bad if this first week I throw in some yogurt or ice cream into her juice?

What was your favorite "comfort food" if you can call anything that, during the first week post op?

Thanks to all of you. I know it isn't/wasn't an easy time.

    Hi Citylights

    Here are some answers
What might be good to give her when she does take her medications, antibiotics, pseud, and motrin.? So her stomach won't get too upset. Of course we don't give them all together.I had my upper jaw moved. I haven't had pain, but I did take my pain medication for around 4 days, then I changed the dosage and by day 6 I stopped talking the pain medication that the doctor prescriptive and just took tylenol for another 2 days and them no more medicine. I didn't need it I didn't have pain.

And what might be a good supplement to give her along with the clear-ish liquids? her juices and soups? In my case the nurse told me to have clear liquids just the first day like apple juice, tea with honey after this I drink ensure ( I hate it) and jamba juice ( love it)

Is it really so bad if this first week I throw in some yogurt or ice cream into her juice?
The first week is the worse after this everything will be better.

What was your favorite "comfort food" if you can call anything that, during the first week post op? Ohhh smoothies the ones that have a lot of calories make with white chocolate..uhh so good. I didn't tolerate eat with a syringe i prefer to use a cup ( the nurse recommended me not to use straws the first days because the suspicion can cause some problems in my sutures. Another think that I really like are soups( Thai or Chinese) they are pretty good and they are liquids and have a lot of flavor Yumm :)

thanks so much. No Jamba juice right around here, but there are other places to go to. Her doctor told us that if she could handle a straw it would be ok to use it. amazing how each doctor says different things. They want her on clear liquids for a week.

I made a beefy soup with alot of veggies and strained it, plus even though she seems to have little pain she didn't look right so I gave her motrin and she perked up. I also had her walk around the apartment a few times.
