    Hey all,
So I just left my 2nd post op appt.(im 2 weeks post op) and my doc gave me some bad news. I asked when my splint would be off and he said 6 weeks, I was hoping 4 weeks max but I think I might be able to talk him into taking it off early. Next, I asked him when id be able to start working out again and he said 6-8 weeks post op. This is bad because I have a backpacking trip in 3 weeks and I need to start getting ready for it. According to him, not only should I avoid exercise, but I should also cancel the trip. When did you guys begin exercise? Some folks have said their dr told them to hit the gym asap. What are your thoughts? Will I be doing damage to myself if I go on this trip? Should I wait for my splint to come out? Thanks everyone!

    P.s. its a 3 day hike.

I'm 5-weeks post op, and I just got the okay to start exercising again yesterday.

In 3 more weeks, when you're 5 weeks post op, I would think the hike would be okay as long as you didn't overdo it too much, and would be in good enough shape since you won't really be able to work out much before then. I wouldn't do much now. You don't want to risk your wounds opening and having lots of bleeding.

Thanks for the advice! The stitches are closing pretty well so far. Im more worried about putting too much strain on my jaw. If I consciously avoided tensing up my jaw im hoping ill be fine. Ill just try to pack light. Is your splint still in?

Recently closed wounds can reopen (wound dehiscence) if too active too soon.

Splint came out yesterday, thank goodness!!
