My surgery date is December 21st! Less than three weeks. I am pretty excited, I have known I was due for surgery for years now. I am getting ready to attend an university this next fall, so I'm trying to give the sweeling plenty of time to go down. Bummer that the end of my senior year will be wired, but rather now than later. I have a pretty sever underbite, only a few of my teeth even touch, so I feel like the operation is definitely worth it. I will be moving my upper and lower jaw. I was surprised to see how many people were in similar situations! Who would've guessed?!

I was wondering what people tries to do to maintain there weight? I already have a slight figure and want to avoid losing too much.

What was the biggest difference you noticed after you were done healing?

    Hi Tamren,

Yep, I was just like you, in that hardly any of my teeth touched, and I had no idea either that there were as many of us jaw surgery patients out there as there are.

Again, I was in the same situation of already being pretty slim for my height, and I ended up losing about 20 pounds. The best thing you can do is to try to drink lots of meal replacement/protein shakes to at least minimize the weight loss.

The good news is that once you get back to eating normal foods, it's really easy and fast to regain the lost weight.

The biggest difference I noticed by far when I was done healing was how much easier it was to chew when your teeth actually fit together! haha It's been just over 2 years since my surgery, and I still appreciate how much more enjoyable eating is with every meal.

I hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, just let me know.

Best of luck with surgery and recovery! Let us know how it goes...
