Hey I'm going into hospital today and having my op early tomorrow morning. I'm feeling ok about things at the moment. I'm sure the nerves will start once I'm there!

Has anyone got any last words of wisdom/advice they can offer? Insiders tips!! lol!

How long did it take you to feel up to going out and seeing people?
How long until you felt able to exercise and be active ie swimming, bike riding?
I know I shouldn't rush the recovery process but its just my nature! I am very impatient! lol!

Any answers and replies would be very appreciated.
    Cheers guys!

If u can think of any last minute questions now until surgery write them down now & ask surgeon then.

I felt "ok" to see others or let them see me at about day 3 or 4. I was a bit congested but it was nice that people visited me. And yeah I was swollen still but it's expected & don't let it get to you when they are shocked by any swelling.

Real exercise? Maybe about a month. It wasnt about an hour of relaxed exercising, nothing major. At about 1 1/2 months i was able to work out much harder. I did a minor workout where I broke a small sweat at about day 15 & afterwards my jaw started to hurt just a tiny bit, I listened to my bodies warning signs and stopped and all was good.

I'm impatient as well but u must be! Especially when eating which will be a workout all on it's own haha. If there's one piece of advice I can give that may help throughout your whole healing process is: don't worry! Worrying will not solve anything. Think about your problem first & if you can't come up with solutions come here and ask. Also when you're ready, read every single thing that we've all posted here on these forums, it will take a day or two but it's VERY much worth your while. You will learn a lot and it might answer questions you'll have down the road!

Good luck & please let us know when you can of your recovery!

First of all, I just wanted to say good luck, Becki! I'll be hoping everything goes wonderfully for you.

I'm 6 days post-op and I was absolutely terrified when I went into the hospital. I was holding my parents' hands and crying in between answering the anesthesiologist's questions about my medical history. Yeah, it was bad. But the important thing to remember if you're apprehensive (and EVERYBODY is,) is that your medical team knows what they're doing and that they're going to take good care of you. My surgeon is a brilliant, wonderful man and I had a team of interns, residents and nurses at the hospital that did their best to treat me like I was a guest in a 4 star hotel.

After I said good bye to my family and they started to wheel me to the O.R., they gave me some "happy medicine" in my IV which made me feel really calm about the whole thing and then before I knew it, I was waking up. So when you think about it, you've got the easiest job out of anybody! You just have to lie there!

But right before I went in, my assisting surgeon told me that the next two days were going to be the roughest and the next two weeks, as well. Like I said, I'm almost a week post-op and I still don't feel like gallavanting around town, but I am getting better. Just remember not to be afraid to ask for anything from nurses, your family members, loved ones--right now, it's up to them to help you. Just relax and let the healing take place and soon, you'll be fine.

    Best of luck!

Hey Im back! Thank you so much for your kind wishes and advice. Im so pleased I found this site.
I am back home now and feeling ok. Im REALLY swollen and one of my main issues is having some intense head aches =-( did anyone else find this after their op? Im not sure if its down to the pressure because of my swelling or due to the fact I havent been eating much (finding it really hard to bring myself to eat anything at the moment, only thing I can manage is a small cup of baby porridge. The thought of anything else make me feel ill)

Congrats on a successful surgery Becki!

Yes, headaches are fairly common and normal, and it's probably a combination of the things you mentioned.

You're already over the first few toughest days, so hang in there, and good luck with the rest of recovery!
