First of all, I just wanted to say good luck, Becki! I'll be hoping everything goes wonderfully for you.
I'm 6 days post-op and I was absolutely terrified when I went into the hospital. I was holding my parents' hands and crying in between answering the anesthesiologist's questions about my medical history. Yeah, it was bad. But the important thing to remember if you're apprehensive (and EVERYBODY is,) is that your medical team knows what they're doing and that they're going to take good care of you. My surgeon is a brilliant, wonderful man and I had a team of interns, residents and nurses at the hospital that did their best to treat me like I was a guest in a 4 star hotel.
After I said good bye to my family and they started to wheel me to the O.R., they gave me some "happy medicine" in my IV which made me feel really calm about the whole thing and then before I knew it, I was waking up. So when you think about it, you've got the easiest job out of anybody! You just have to lie there!
But right before I went in, my assisting surgeon told me that the next two days were going to be the roughest and the next two weeks, as well. Like I said, I'm almost a week post-op and I still don't feel like gallavanting around town, but I am getting better. Just remember not to be afraid to ask for anything from nurses, your family members, loved ones--right now, it's up to them to help you. Just relax and let the healing take place and soon, you'll be fine.
Best of luck!
Becky
