Physical is easy. There are drugs for that, and most pains go away in a few days (in the event that you do experience pain).
Emotional distress is another issue. Make sure that you have a good support base. Keep a journal; there are a lot of thing that you wouldn't want to talk about with your support base. You need to get them out. I know this because I experienced an emotional breakdown at the end of day 6. Am much better now. Write pages a day in my journal. It works.
Blog entry detailing said emotional breakdown: "One week..."
You will do great. Keep in mind that you are doing this to make the rest of your life better! The surgery is something to look forward to!
i think the less you weigh to start with the less youre likely to lose.i put on half a stone for surgery and went up to 9stone.after surgery i seemed to lose a pound a day untill i was about 8.5stone and then ive just stayed there.
i too have found the mental side of the recovery far worse than the physical.
@linzi: I have to say I love the way you talk, it is so cute! I show my wife and she thinks so too. I live in America, and seldom encounter Europeans. Thank you for unknowingly making me smile =)
awww Hose.A.Jaw what a lovely comment for you to make.bless you and your wife, who have both made me smile now :-)
its a real pleasure to have met yourself and everybody on here.i think we are all amazingly strong people going through this procedure and its wonderful that we are all here to support and encourage each other :-)
PS, I have no idea what a stone is, and I won't look it up.... In America it is taboo for ladies to reveal their weight =)
I was told that one can expect to lose roughly 10% of their body weight on average but that it will all come back fairly quickly with the return of regular diet. So far 6 days out, I have lost only 2.4%. I'm trying to keep my calories up with high protein shakes because I'm petite to begin with. Also, don't want to lose all the muscle I've put on doing p90X workouts!
To help prepare oneself for surgery, the best thing I recommend is: (1) exercise and healthy diet; (2) practice some sort of meditation or yoga if one is prone to anxiety; (3) have a strong support system in place; (4) enjoy spending time doing fun things with friends and family before your surgery as much as possible.
i have no worries of revealing my weight while im losing......might think differently when its going back on lol
