Hello everyone!
I'm new to this website. I'm so glad that I've found this forum so far it's helped answer so many questions.
On Nov. 17, 09:30 AM I had my orthognathic surgery. My lower jaw was moved back, and my upper jaw went front and according to my surgeon he had to break some few bones below my nose to make my upper jaw 'wider' I'm not very good with the exact details of the surgery, but all in all it went well.
I had to be in the ICU for 3 days because I have a rare blood disease that makes me bleed easier than most people an in addition have a higher % of getting a stroke (which I had 3 months ago)
I was on blood thinners for 3 days pre-op. They admitted me a day early before the surgery to prep me up with shots, and run some final heart-related tests.
My duration wasn't horrible. There was no excessive bleeding, and considering I have severe asthma, I haven't had any breathing related issues! The only bad experience I had during this process was the fact that I'm LITERALLY allergic to every pain killer on the planet. I reacted so badly to everything. Nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, itchiness, you name it! I even had my period on that day... Oh my god.
I'm a very optimistic and positive person. I just had to grit my teeth (haha) and go with it. Surviving on normal paracetamol to relieve pain and discomfort. Total stay in hospital was 6 days.
It's day 8 today and I feel fantastic. I thought it would be a difficult time for me, (don't get me wrong, I had the occasional 'face muscle cramps/spasm/pain/hell' for a bit and some uncomfortable moments)
I'm able to walk, talk, smile, breathe, cook, prepare my own meals and not pass out in the shower (I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about)
My swelling is gradually going down, I can feel my face like normal. Only slight tingliness on my lower left lip and chin, veryyy mild I hope it goes away soon. I'm trying to regain my energy by drinking as many Actimels/milk/water/juices and some soups. I think it helps being young (I'm 22),healthy and athletic. I bet it plays a huge factor when it comes to recovering etc.
Ok so 'drum rolls' My concern is... My left side of my jaw feels bumpy. Like a huge bump. It's hard to touch, not soft. It's literally protruding out. Is this part of the swelling? My appointment with my surgeon is in 3 days but I just want to know if anyone has something similar?
It's uncomfortable to touch :( It hurts and aches slightly. My right side feels a bit lumpy but not as hard as the right.
Thanks!
