Hiii. My name is kelly. I'm 22 and i have a class III underbite. I think everyone can relate when I say I feel like it is the one physical flaw I have been living with. I feel like it is the only thing holding me back from being completely confident in my appearance. I want to undergo the surgery this year if not the beginning of next year. And that brings me to the first question. Is that even possible to have a surgery scheduled in that short amount of time. Esp because I also have severe gum reduction due to my poor bite. And I need cavities and general maintenance done I'm sure. Next question is how do I get insurance to cover it. I would think since I have the gum recession problem and I have lock jaw feequently it wouldn't be considered cosmetic. No one in my life can relate to how I feel. They all say its fine I'm still beautiful blah blah. And I do think I'm beautiful. But I can't help but wonder how more beautiful I could be. Esp after seeing the post op pics. I have most of the characteristics of the underbite. ie long pretruding chin. Sunk in cheeks, thin lips. That I see have been corrected after the surgery. Its so nice to find this website. Its definately brought me some closure. Thank you all. If you would like pictures just let me know and explain how I can upload tem. Since I'm new at this hahahaha.

Hi Kelly! I'm 28 and have had braces on for 6 months. I guess my first question would be if you have ever had braces? That is where you should start with, an orthodontist consultation and then an oral surgeon consultation. They can tell you what you would be looking at as far as time and what all you would need done first. Where do you live? To get insurance to cover mine, the oral surgeon did everything. It was approved the 1st time around...Thank God! I think that pretty much anyone who is on this forum can relate to your self-esteem issues.
P.s. I would tell you how to post pics...but I'm not really sure myself lol

I've had braces for 2 years than they had to take them off because my gums were receding too much. And my orthodontist felt like until I get my surgery process going he thinks I shouldn't have them on for adult braces contribute to more gum recession. I'm waiting for my husband to get his insurance from his work. How long was the time period from the start of getting approved to getting the actual surgery done? Because I'm hoping to get it by early next year. No later then March =/ thank you soo much for your help. I live in houston texas

I am in florida. I didn't get braces on until I was approved for surgery. I knew that braces would make my bite worse... So I wasn't going to chance it. I met with my oral surgeon in November last year and got an approval by March. They didn't submit it to insurance until January or so though bc of the holidays and vacations and such. I'm still not sure when exactly I will have surgery, that depends on when the ortho thinks I'm ready. I got my braces on in April and at that time he told me a year.. I'm hoping it will be sooner than that though! Do you know what insurance your husband will have? My husband has aetna.

Hi there! I have a bad underbite too! I'm hopefully getting my surgery done this summer. I've just gotten my wisdom teeth out yesterday, so once they heal I'm getting it done :) I'd love to see pics of yours to compare and then I'll be able to help you further. here's a video explaining how to upload pics!

I decided to get surgery in january. I had braces put on immediately. I had by surgery in october and I was 'healed' by december.
My teeth were fairly crowded/wonky and I had a severe open bite.
So yes, you can do it this year if you really want to. I HAD to due to some complicated reasons... but I'm sure if you ask/tell them way beforehand, they can let you know whether it's possible. Mind you, we don't have insurance here and I'm not sure if that slows down the whole plot.
Either way whats the rush?
