Hello! I am new to this forum, but I need some help and advice.
Well...It has been probably exactly one week since my Jaw Surgery. I had it on November 10th. What can I say...Its one of those times I really don't want to repeat again because I do not get along with pain. Anyways, I had an overbite which was getting worse and my jaw was clicking constantly. Soooo we finally got the surgery and it was hell. Also my mouth is wired shut with my braces. I have been on a liquid diet for a week and loosing weight is very bad for me since I am already super skinny. Liquid foods make me sick. Anyways every night I would be tossing and turning in bed because they told me to sleep on my back. I can't sleep on my back cause it is super uncomfortable so I have to sleep on my side but since my face is swollen it hurts sometimes too. I have put pillows everywhere to help me keep comfortable but I still need to sleep on my side. As the days progress. My swelling has been going done which is good but. the stitches inside my left cheek I think broke because I was bleeding maybe it was from straws or trying to talk alot. What should I do about this problem? The stitches were dissolvable though but the would hurts and its giving me a bad taste in my mouth. I tried salt water and it didnt burn idk if it worked or not. Do I have to get it restitched or let it heal on its own? Also on the right side of my mouth. It is still numb and its the numbest out of my whole face. Well Idk if I ruined a screw(I have screws on both sides) Or what but it feel like I weird like. since I have a splint I try to put my teeth together and that side feels like something is not right. it is really hard to explain. I push on my cheek with my finger and it hurts a little but that is probably on the swelling. Sometimes my ear hurts on that side too. I don't know what to do. I am really worried and I hope all of this wasn't a waste of time. I really don't want to go back into surgery again.

I would give it some time. I haven't had surgery, but judging by everyone else's cases on here, it seems like a very difficult process to go through, and day 6 and 7 seem to be some of the worst. I was thinking this morning about how the mental part is going to be the worst, because you're stuck inside your own head, wondering if something went wrong, and depression starts to hit. So, I would just be reassured that the complication rate is very, very low. Swelling is good. That's normal. It's going to take a while to recover, but I would talk to your surgeon if things aren't improving. I mean, it looks like 6 weeks should be when things start turning around. At one week, you're probably at the worst part, so keep that in mind. Other than that, hopefully someone who has been through it can give you more advice. Good luck :)

Hey,congrats on the surgery!, I know your feeling rough, and I tottaly understand your worrys as they are pretty much everything I had thought / been through. I also had the splint and phoned up the hospital worried because I to was worried it had moved/something wrong as my bite on it wasent the same, but DONT WORRY, it'll be fine the sergoun told me aslong as your back teeth are resting on it (even if it feels not normal) itl be fine but you'll need to get it cheked asap to be save. Also with the eating it is TERRABLE!!!! With that horrible splint in but as soon as that comes out (even if your still wired shut) eating is juts soooo much better I managed to eat milky readybreak wich really stuffed me and pretty much live on that!. When is your splint due to come out? With the weird taste in your mouth sounds like an infection, I also had an infection and had to take antibiotics for 7 days ( you have to go see a docta to get it cheked) salt water should be done several times a day also specially after every meal, oh and I put lots of salt in and never once burned me? I dont know if burning is suppose to be a side effect so... When it comes to numbing feelings going away everybodys different so can't really comment when itl go, but I will say I was numb for 2 weeks then litually within the space of a few days! I had all my feeling back in my chin it really shokd me how quickly and sudden it came back. I can't comment on your sleeping situation if you can only sleep on your side but I can emagin how uncamfatable that would be with a swallon face, but atleast the swelling is going down! So itl get easier. Any way good luck with the rest of your recovary I know how emotionally draining this whole ting is but it will get better! :)

I'm one week ahead of you in the process (had my surgery on the Oct 31). I felt the same way you described in your post about regret and not wanting to ever go through this again...and still do at times, but it's getting better everyday. Once the swelling starts to ease up, you will feel more happy and human. If your face feels super swollen and stiff, use Arniflora gel
http://www.vitacost.com/Boericke-Tafel-Arniflora-Arnica-Gel-2-75-oz
This stuff is great. Almost immediately you can feel the tightness ease up and it takes the pain away from those areas where swelling is the most. It's been a lifesaver for me.
You also need to sleep in order to heal. So take sleeping pills. That way you will sleep even if you are uncomfortable. I can't sleep on my back either, so I had to take Orfidal every night just to be able to sleep. It's definitely not a homeopathic remedy, but I think it helped me get through the hardest part.
Anyway, hang in there. I think we will all be really happy we did this when it's all said and done!
