I was thinking that people with an underbite may have a better result after having a surgery than a people with an overbite, retrognathia, distal bite or whatever. The point is - when you lower jaw didn't grow - you may only assume on what it could look like and when it's overgrown, you can see what should be fixed. Feel free to share your thoughts. I didn't mean to say that having an underbite is better functionally, by the way

hai durden..i had underbite before...the most cool changes i can feel right now is that i can close my mouth effortlessly comparing before surgery
as for malocclusion i still have malocclusion and surgeon said that it can be solved by orhtodontic treatment.furhtermore i still cant chew right now to feel the malocclusion
as for overbite..i think its the same thing(i think)
i think those cant be solved too by surgery...

kabai what happened to your surgery, why you still have an underbite after surgery ?

I had an underbite, not because my bottom jaw was too long but because my top one was too short. I've seen some amazing results from both underbite and overbite surgeries so I think it's hard to say if one is better than the other

up-...i had underbite before..now i have normal bite..after the surgery.
now i am 14days post op but i have malocclusion problem here and there(meaning my molar teeth of upper and lower jaw do not has contact each other when i close my jaw).it was because my surgeon changed the plan from double jaw surgery(lower and upper jaw)to only lower jaw surgery(move backward).during the surgery i lost so much blood that he had to stop the surgery and only finish with my lower jaw moving backward.therefore i had malocclusion problem.he said that this can be solved by orthodontic treatment.so far my healing process goes quite well..
p/s sorry for my bad english i hope u can get my point

Not all underbites are "overgrown", I have an underbite and it still needs to be moved forward.

I have an underbite because I have a retrognathic top jaw ( hope i spelled that right) and my bottom jaw grew vertically. So its not like my bottom jaw sticks out. I guess there is a wide range of bite problems. I also have an anterior open bite. I have seen a lot of cases similar to mine and the post surgery pictures look pretty amazing. I think the most drastic is fixing an open bite because it causes the profile to convex. I sometimes wish I could imagine what my profile will look like post surgery. Guess I'll have to wait.
