Hi!
I am just curious if anyone has any suggestions of good surgeons on the west coast in California, Nevada, Oregon... I live in Truckee, CA. But have been working with Reno, NV doctors.
here's my situation:
I am 23 years old and am just recently being thrown into this whirlwind of jaw surgery. I have had braces twice as a child, like ages 10-13 and then again when I was 14. I have an overbite and an openbite. I relapsed after both sets of braces. My open bite is putting so much pressure on my back teeth and they are now being ruined. My back molars are all almost completely flat and my dentist said i need surgery and then referred me to see a new orthodontist and get a referral to a surgeon... Well the orthodontist is top rated in town. He referred me to a really good surgeon but it turns out the surgeon is charging a $20,000-30,000 facility fee... Its that much just for the room of the surgery that doesn't include the braces, or surgery costs, or anesthesia. I have no insurance so I have been planning on being self paid but I cant pay 20,000 just to be in a room! I will just need a top jaw surgery moving 4mm one way and 1 or 2 mm back( i forget the logistics as of now)
So my ortho referred me to a surgeon in Seattle and said he only charges $8,000 for everything. I thought it was too good to be true and then I googled ratings of the Seattle surgeon and he has terrible ratings! I am now scared to go to that guy. I then had a friend tell me the same thing happened to her by not affording the Reno surgeon and being sent to the Seattle guy and he messed her up and she had to get two surgeries and pay twice...Several of the ratings of the Seattle surgeon were very similar situations of botched jaw surgery and a corrective surgery needed, so now I am officially afraid of him.

I have been expecting to pay $20,000-22,000 total braces, surgery- everything. Maybe I am really underestimating the costs but $20,000 for just the operating room is so upsetting and I can't imaging spending $50,000 to fix my mouth. And I've been told by the surgeon that pretty much no insurances cover it so i haven't been worried about finding an insurance company, I've just been trying to save all my money up to self pay. Now I am really bummed, without any idea of a good surgeon or where to go from here...
any suggestions on surgeons or proper insurance would be awesome. Thanks!!!
