Hi all. I am a 38-year old mom who is just starting this process. I had braces as a teen but was non-compliant with the elastics. Over the years I had an open bite that worsened, and my lower jaw has also shifted to the side. I am looking into this after finding out that my medical insurance will pay for surgery, depending on what procedure codes are used. For a long time it was completely excluded. I saw the ortho today for impressions and x-rays and have my first appt with the surgeon March 4th. Has anyone heard of Dr Terry Taylor in Houston?

The main problem that has lead me to this point, aside from appearance, is that I grind my teeth at night. I lost one to root fracture, because it was the ONE spot my teeth met and all that force was in that one spot every night. I have since had night guards, but never can get them to fit right. I also snore, and eating can be difficult. The ortho thinks I have a good chance of getting insurance to pay.

This is a very informative site.

    Hi Amanda,

Welcome to the site, glad it has helped so far!

I haven't heard of Dr. Terry Taylor, but I'm all the way over in Richmond, Virginia.

That's great that your insurance looks like it will cover it.

Keep us updated on your progress, and if you have any questions at all along the way, just let us know.

    Good luck on March 4th!

    Hi Amanda,

It's been 10 months since your post and I assume you already had your surgery with Dr. Terry Taylor. I was wondering if the surgery and recovery went well. I live in Houston too and I need to go for jaw surgery. I have to get the ortho work done first though. Since I'm living in Houston I'm also interested to know about Dr. Taylor's work and his aesthetics. Please keep me posted on your current status and your healing. Best wishes!
