Long time reader first time poster!

Seeing as my surgery date is looming (January 23rd)I thought I might start to document my journey thus far and expectations for surgery.

So my story starts one year ago when i was sick of the state of my teeth. They were crowded and unsightly and i was really keen to get them fixed. But when i went to the ortho they told me that braces alone would not fix the problem. I was told that i had a deep bite and braces would just change that into an overbite. I also found that my tooth grinding and difficulty chewing using my front teeth was due to isses with my bite. So i did my research and decided to go through with both the braces and surgery.

10 months later and my teeth are just about perfect! My deep bite has been transformed into an overbite and im very optimistic towards surgery in 34 days. My surgeon is yet to do the molds but he has estimated that he will move the mandible forward 4-6mm. Im kind of exited! I've always had a weak profile, and i think the surgery will help to balance out my whole face. I will include some pictures below as well as a price breakdown.

    Price (Australian);
    -braces $5800
-surgery $3000 (will get roughly 50% back)
    -insurance $1000

    1) weak profile (sorry about the flash)

    2) expected outcome (me sliding my jaw forward)

    3)my teeth just about done!

4)front view of my jaw/ chin (i don't think surgery will chance this much)

Sorry i don't have more pictures of my profile, i tend to delete the pictures i dont like haha. if anyone has had surgery similiar to mine, is having surgery at the same time as me, has some advice or just wants a chat, hit me up :)

@boat21: Welcome!! Thank you for your post! I had many issues similar to what you are describing. Am 15 days post op now. My issues/physical limitations were worse than yours. I have taken detailed notes/records via pictures on my blog. You can follow my journey; it will hopefully make you laugh. You could just look at the pictures (detailed pictures of me before braces, before surgery, and pretty much every day since). You don't even have to read what I type. I realized today that I am writing the actual blog mostly for me. It is a reflection of how I feel and what I am experiencing. Normally, I am a private person. I now freely share many details. I also know better; it is healthy to keep a personal journal and NOT share with anyone. It is healthy to get thoughts out if you cannot talk/cannot move your face. My blog will hopefully help understand the mental/emotional struggles that are seldom discussed. The physical pain/annoyances are nothing, for me. Others have pain that I cannot imagine. I feel lucky. You are right to start a documentation. You will surprise yourself. Best of luck to you! You will do great!!!

Okay so i"m 3 months post op.
The surgeon ended up moving the lower jaw forward 10mm which is more than what i was expecting..
    Recovery was reasonable smooth.
I think it's important that you eat, eat, eat, even when you feel really down.
And keep it healthy! I'm certain that my diet helped ALOT!
Day 2 and 3 is terrible. 3-6 is alot better. 6-9 you get over it and will find yourself being very grumpy with your mum. and from 12-15 i was feeling alot better.
Also starting at day 4 i was doing 30-60 minute walsk every day. This will help with swelling and improve your mood/energy levels.
    Here's some pics

    1. Compare this to the predicted, it's very accurate

    2. smiles

    3. serious

    4. side smiles

I've noticed that bringing the jaw forward has really added a 'thicker jaw look' to my smiles, my chin vertical length may have also increased slightly.

Braces off in about 5 weeks, followed by pro whitening!
The finish line is in sight!
    Any questions? Shoot!

Still can't feel my lower left lip 100%. I probably have 75% of feeling back. So every now and then i get some food there and don't realise haha. Also the swelling on one side of my jaw lasted a lot longer than the swelling on the opposite side, but apparently this isn't too uncommon
