I have always been self-conscious about my lower face without ever being able to say precisely what was wrong until earlier this week when I was getting my wisdom teeth removed and I asked the surgeon what was wrong with me. Well, he told me that my upper jaw was too forward and the lower one too far back. Then he showed me pictures of girls with my problem, with before and after and wow what a difference! Now I decided I'm doing it for sure (I wanted a chin implant and this is better and cheaper) and took my first appointment on January 12. I removed my braces a few years ago and he told me I won't need them again so I would like to have it done as soon as possible. The perfect time for me would be between May and August of 2012 before I start university so I was wondering how long is it gonna take to do all the preparation for it? And what am I gonna need to do?

BTW I'm a 20 years old girl and even tho people say I'm attractive, I have a gummy smile, a slight overbite even after braces so my upper lip doesn't cover my teeth when my mouth is relaxed and when I close my lips, my chin get all scrunched up and disappears. I absolutely hate my profile and every time someone wants to insult me they'll call me buck teeth or horse face or rabbit... And my teeth are perfectly straight!!

P-S: This forum is amazing and the stories are inspiring. I'm so thankful someone took the time to do this, it's the best source of information out there.

I think this is something that you would have to ask your surgeon, because i have read of people not getting their date till 1 or 2 months before their surgery, where I booked my surgery date in June and my surgery is in December. so it can vary from person to person depending on where they are and who their surgeon is

Like I said, I have my first appointment in January but I'm just so exited to get it over with and start the recovery process.

I know hoe you feel, waiting is the worst part, but annoyingly these things take time, alot of time! but at least you don't have to get your braces again, that's soo good :)

I got my date 1 month before surgery. I suggest regular checkups though because most people go through braces again regardless, and you don't want it to suddenly bite you in the butt in the last minute so to speak :D Make your plans clear to him so there's no mistake.

The surgon told me i would have to keep my braces in for 3 months after which im not worried bout as after all this time im just happy to be gettin teh surgery done.

Nervous of the op, the pain and wil it all be worth it when it done!

hi, I know the feeling knowing something not quite right with your lower face, but good that you will get the surgery while you are young. things progressed very quick for me. saw surgeon in Jan 2010 braces June 2010 and due for surgery on 7th December. your case will be different if they are not fixing braces, expect it. be very quick. I bet you are excited. good luck with everything..

Bsso for overbite on 21st December. Lower advanced 8mm upper impacted by 3mm and moved forward 2mm.

Hey I got my date in july and had surgery in ocotober :) you said you are getting chin implant instead of the surgery to bring your jaw backwards, the thing with that is surely your bite won't be correct? Which could affect eating and talking I know I'm not a surgoun, but did he not mention this? And would you not prefer to spend that little bit more for the perfect bite

I didn't get my date til around the middle of October; my surgery's on December 1st. The delay was because we were fighting to get my insurance to approve it (they didn't, and don't go for orthognathics very often anyway); otherwise I'd probably have had it in September or so.
