In my case is not easy because I can't feel my upper jaw neither my left side and it feels weird. Also, I had an open bite, so I was used to have only my back teeth touching, and now I have a normal bite, and it feels like I'm gonna break my teeth or that I'm going to hurt my self. I guess I need to get used to my new bite.

hi im only 2 days post op but im elastic up'd so cant eat nething, im allowed to take them out to eat, take meds and brush teeth and then they go stright back in. The only thing i can eat is weetabix really runny mostly milk, tried a yogurt but even that was a bit thick as i cant open my mouth much even without the bands, surgeon said ne chewing untill 6 wks even at that it will be small amounts of soft food. everyone diff i suppose so can understand why teh docs would give different time scales.

My stomach is recked with not eatin proper foods just tryin to drink loads!

    good luck with it all!

i have pics up on teh forum under surgery dec 6th, check it out.x

My surgeon is telling me I can start eating from week 2. I don't think I am quite ready, but I could start eating after only a few days.

I was just told to manage whatever I can manage. Wasn't told what I can or can't eat. Around week 4 or 5 I was actually chewing again. Managed pizza and a McDonald's cheeseburger. The cheeseburger was kinda hard as I struggled to get it in my mouth and it was still a bit tough to eat despite how soft they actually are lol.

I'm at 19 weeks post-op now. I'm back to eating normally, but my problem now is, because my top gums are numb, I can't properly feel how hard I'm biting something. I test it on my girlfriend by biting her finger or something lol. I feel like I'm biting really hard and hurting her, and she says it's like being bitten by a baby with no teeth haha.

Managed real solid food tonight, 19 days post op! It was just (not very good) pizza, and I kind of avoided the crust (the stuff under the toppings was fine), but hey, better than nothing! After three weeks of mashed potatoes and pudding and smoothies and Ensure, it was like eating prime rib, haha.

Your surgeon will periodically evaluate you. 12 weeks is overly cautious. I'm sure it will be reevaluated with subsequent visits to your surgeon.

I've been told 6 weeks liquid, then I'll move onto soft non chew then chew, but the surgeon said its down to how long I have my bands on for.

I had my surgery Friday and am already sick!

My surgeon told me I could have a no chew diet at 1 1/2 weeks and I can't chew until 6 weeks. I have to wait until my splint is off to try to chew. My teeth are very sore and I couldn't imagine trying to chew right now.

I had a 2 piece LeFort 1 that widened my upper jaw 3-4mm, my upper jaw was shortened by 6mm to reduce my gummy smile, pushed back 3mm and tilted up in the back. My lower jaw was pushed back 3mm. Surgery was December 1, 2011
