it's been almost 3rd week after surgery... and i am down to 136 lbs from 155 lbs.
it's good to lose love handles that i used to have but.. it's almost scary to lose so much so fast.
    How about all of you?

    Hi Justin,

Yeah, I lost about 20 pounds too, and most of that was just the first few days. You can see pictures about half way down the page:

Just be sure you're still getting as many calories as you can, even though I know those shakes and Ensures can get old fast! haha

One thing to remember is that it's going to come back pretty fast once you adjust back into a normal diet.

I'm Brandon, the creator of JawSurgeryBlog.com. I personally had upper and lower jaw surgery on October 30, 2007. Thankfully, everything went beautifully, so I'm trying to make sure everyone else's surgery goes smoothly as well!

hm, yea! kind of freaky. i didn't get the surgery yet.

but i didn't know you could lose THAT much! my gosh..

that is scary... i'll feel bulimic.

I thought it was just 10 over a few weeks. WOW

    Hey!
I am 19, and I have a Class 3 under-bite.I'm having maxillofacial jaw surgery(the top and bottom jaw surgery)and got my braces 5/21/10.
Just got news that I "may" start prepping for surgery in October 2011! Great news because I was originally told I'd have braces for 2-3 years!

I'm five days out from my surgery and I'm already down 8 pounds. Hopefully, now that I can remove the bands 3x/day to drink (now on full-liquids) I'll be able to slow that rate down a bit.

I had upper jaw surgery 2/3/10...well on my way to recovery, a great smile and finally being able to chew normally!

Gosh, I think I must defy science. I didnt manage to loose a single pound post surgery. Dont ask my how i managed it but even after having my upper jaw done in Dec 2009 i used to take my wires off and eat or should i say suck on liquidised food(stews/pies/caseroles). I also ate soft cereals/smoothies/jucies/mashed potatoe and eggs till they were coming out my ears. It would take me ages to eat (circa an hour and a half) and i would have to reheat my dinner at least twice every time but i still managed it. I would put back on the wires after eating. My surgeon said that i could do this so i wonder are post surgery patients treated differently in the States compared to Ireland where i had my surgery. Its common practice to remove your wires when eating and this includes both upper and lower jaw surgery but not for longer than periods of one hour and they only remain on for a maximum of 3/4 weeks. The technical term for my procedure was a maxilla osteotomy and my jaw was moved 4mm forwards.

I can agree with Cathy, I havent lost much. I am almost at my 4th week post-op and I eat pies, my fav is lemon merangue, I eat the whole filling of the pie..yummy..and i manage to eat everything. I just have to take really small pieces and push it to the roof of my mouth, on my splint, and swallow. I was planning and hoping to lose some weight..but i love food!

Yeah, so since my last post, I'm back up to my pre-surgery weight.
I, too, was planning and hoping to lose some weight through this process, but no. I love food way too much! I have no problem melting chocolate to get my sugar fix! And, I'm not below adding butter and/or gravy in order to thin foods enough to eat/drink/mush!

I'm at day 8 right now post surgery and I have been losing about a pound a day...so sounds pretty typical for the first 10 days at least (or however long people stay wired shut), so I expect I've got two more pounds to go until the big unwiring day Monday- woo hoo!
