Hey, having surgery on May 19th (about a month from now) and I need to gain weight! Haha

I'm 25 yrs old, 5'8" & have weighed 135 lbs since high school. It's REALLY hard for me to gain weight so I'm scared that after surgery I'll be 115 lbs! I'm already pretty skinny so 115 is insane. Any tips on how to gain weight healthily?

With my braces, its already difficult to chomp down on things for extended periods, so I usually drink carnation shakes to help get more calories.

Oh and 1 more thing, can anyone recommend foods/blends after surgery that I can eat/drink? I was thinking about buying some kind of protein power supplement but I have no clue what is good or bad. Thanks!

I Lost about a stone after my opperation 6 months ago, but when you can eat again properly you pile it back on again, Im heavier than i was before my opperation now. People say i still look skinny, but im used to being a bit slimmer!
I just lived on homemade smoothies and juices, If you have a juicer, Apple and carrot is quite nice. I Blendid most things, i mixed fruit and yoghurts or icecream with honey, or a roast dinner. This only lasted about 2 weeks then went on to mashed foods. About a week later eating normal meals. I did have to use a mirror when eating the mashed up food as i could not open my mouth very wide and it was numb, my son found that quite funny!

Jason, I was the same way, and there's a more detailed breakdown of how I finally gained weight here:

And Bexx was right, any weight that you do lose, usually piles right back on once you get back on solid foods.

And here's some ideas on what to eat while wired shut:

I hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, just let us know...

It was scary for me too. I didn't have the weight to loose. I started off at 111 lbs (I'm only 5'2) and I dropped down to 99. Post surgery I only gained up to 105. I am now 3 months pregnant and weigh only 106. I don't get why I am not gaining the weight.

some things I ate while I was not able to chew was chicken soup put into a blender. So there was actually chicken in it and I got the protein I needed. You could try fruit smoothies and add some soft tofu to it... sounds gross but you wont taste the tofu and it will give you protein. ohhh and if you take curry and blend that it is amazing. All you taste is the curry so you don't get grossed out that there are blended veggies and meat in your bowl.

I am also very tiny 5' 3" and was 102 facing surgery. I gained 10 pounds before surgery...using cocnut milk in smoothies, using whole milks, etc. Healthy fats..adding cheese to stuff etc. It is hard to me to gain because I exercise alot and I wanted to still be "fit" for surgery. So anyway, I am 2 1/2 wks post op and I weigh 103 ! So I only lost 9 of the 10 I gained. Now that I am getting used to blending things, it won't be as hard to keep it on. I think the bigger guys lose more because their bodies are used to taking in so much. It isn't as hard for the smaller people to drink as many calories as they used to take in.
