Just had surgery on Tues July 21st, 09 to bring my lower jaw forward. Was concerned that wiring would be better that rubber bands as I can actually move my jaw slightly, although I'm trying hard not to. somtimes it just happens. How soon should I go back to work? I work directly with the public, at the airport, so quite swollen and bruised right now. A bit depressed also......

Hi Merilyn,
First off, congrats on a successful surgery!
You may want to talk to your surgeon to make sure he knows you are able to move your jaws even slightly. It may be perfectly fine, but I know the less jaw movement after surgery, the better and faster the chances for a quick recovery.
As far as going back to work, if you're dealing with the public, then you'll obviously have to at least be unwired/unbanded, so you can communicate more effectively.
Did your surgeon tell you how long that would be? For me, it was 5 weeks, and I probably wouldn't have been ready to go back to your type of position for up to 8 weeks post-surgery, but my case and surgery was pretty severe, so the time may be shorter for you.

I'm Brandon, the creator of JawSurgeryBlog.com. I personally had upper and lower jaw surgery on October 30, 2007. Thankfully, everything went beautifully, so I'm trying to make sure everyone else's surgery goes smoothly as well!
