This tuesday I just received information that I can go for orthogantic surgery and I was shocked because I didn't realise that its 3 weeks later. Any ideas on how to gain 8 to 10kgs within this 3 weeks? I am already close to being underweight if I were to lose another 8 to 10kgs I will be left with skin and bones. I have this jaw crampness often and I find it hard to eat much sometimes I will just eat 1 or 2 times aday.

Thought of having GNC 1850 weight gainer to gain weight. Should I take in weight gainer within this 3 weeks/after the orthogantic surgery or after I recovered the surgery? any suggestions? and any pre, post surgery suggstions?

What questions must I ask during the assesment which is 2 weeks later.

While you could definitely use a few extra pounds, I wouldn't do anything too extreme, because it may be even harder on your body to fluctuate up and then back down that fast and far.

Just try to eat a few extra meals and snacks here and there, aiming for about 4-6 extra pounds, then have some protein shakes, Ensures, etc. ready for post-surgery to keep your weight up as much as possible.

    Hi,

I too am low weight, normally 108. Lost 6 lbs during first few days post op, had decreased appetite and couldn't "drink" enough food to stop the loss. Got Two Cal HN (you can buy on line) which is a supplement that is 2 cal per cc as well as Ensure Plus. Drank the Two Cal HN in the AM (8 oz), had 1 or 2 Ensure Plus in afternoon along w/ whatever else I could manage to drink in the way of real food, and that pretty quickly stopped the loss. I would strongly suggest having high calorie supplements ready to go in your fridge.

I also switched to whole milk and whole yogurt (instead of fat free). I didn't even have my jaws wired shut so that was not the issue, just loss of appetite. Now 5 wks post op (upper jaw moved out 7mm) and getting off the supplements and doing better w/ blendarizing real food every day. Weight still a little low but holding. Best of luck!!

oic. Last year when I measured my weight I was 53kg(116.86 pounds) didn't got my weight measured for the entire year probabaly will gain weight since I haven been working out for almost 1 whole year. xD I still have 2 more weeks to have mental preparation and also time to put on weight =) Hope those ensure plus drinks, smoothies or any high calorie drinks can stop the weight loss I'm going to have after my surgery. I tried drinking hot chocolate and soy bean milk for my breakfast and dinner for one or 2 day 2 years back. turn out I got my "ball" cramp, gastric cramp and I vomited out all my gastric juice xD Hope those ensure plus and those liquid diet won't give me the same problem I had with hot chocolate and soy bean milk.

I gained about 5 kg before my jaw surgery. I just ate double of what I usually eat and stopped exercising. How hard can it be?

Its extremely hard for me to gain weight especially when I'm those extremely high metabolism rate type and I eat depending on my mood.

I measured my weight on thursday during the blood test and thought I would gain loads of weight cause I'm inactive for the whole of 2010. And I snack like no body business and I only step into the gym one this year. Turn out I still weigh 53.3kg the same weight I had after gaining weight 2 years back I gained all the way to 55kg but my weight depleted to 53.3kg... I'm going to faint.... Think I'm those kind of type when I don't lose or gain and just stay at a certain weight no matter how active I am or how inactive I am or how much I eat.

My BMI is 19kg per cm square a healthy BMI. My healthy weight range is 51kg to 61 kg. I will be underweight if I were to lose another 4kgs... Just hope I won't go below 51kg after surgery =X

That is tough. For me, lots of cheese did the trick. I ate 2 large 12" pizzas all by myself and ate lots of potato chips. I am not sure what will work for you.

I will have to endure those vibrations on my imbalanced jaw when cracking those chips and eating those burgers and pizzas I ususally eat them when i really feel like eating them. I used to eat fast food 5 times a week when i was in secondary school I thought I will be fat, turn out I grew from undersized to average size xD

Maybe pizzas and cheese will work for me since I'm going to starve for 2 weeks I'll just eat pizzas and treat myself some good stuffs I have 1 week left before I'm wire(bands) shut. But most probably my body will burn off those calories again =X

Basically, there is a certain number of calories that you need to eat each day in order to maintain your current weight. This is known as your calorie maintenance level. If you eat less calories than this amount, you lose weight. So you must be take more calories.
