    Hey everyone,

My names Laura and I'm from Scotland, I just had my surgery on Monday which is about 5 days ago now.
I'm finding it quite hard to get to sleep and as well as suffering from aniexty at times I wonder if it is better for the swelling to
sleep in a more up right position rather than flat?
Has anyone tested or tried this?

So interesting to read all your posts as they do the surgery differently in Britain. I had to have both upper and lower jaw
surgery with the genoplasty and I had to get my lower jaw brought over because of allignment issues. I got home from hospital on Thursday and couldn't be happier to be home! So hungry all the time!! My muscles were not lining my teeth up quite right so I have elastic bands on diagonally from top to bottom jaw to pull my lower jaw over that little bit which Is pretty painful but I'm trying to stay positive! Iv wanted this surgery since I was very little and at 20 I finally got it and can't believe it's over can't wait to see the end process and just thank you to you all for providing me with some inspiration while I lie trying to sleep on swollen cheeks! :)

Its extremely uncomfortable to sleep flat with a swollen face. Tilt your bed 45 degrees up. For me I place my matress on my sofa so that it is 45 degrees up. =)

    Hi Laura

I'm agree with pw the best way to sleep at least for the first week is 45 degrees I would recommended you to get a neck pillow because it keep your head up.

    happy holidays!

    Hi Laura,
My daugher just had surgery on Monday also. Just the lower jaw. Her surgeon told her to sleep in our recliner for the first week or two. She has been able to do this & has been fairly comfortable at night.

Thanks iv managed to get this big V shaped pillow from my gran and it will hopefully help! I'm beginning to adjust to the facial swelling now so I'm not drifting off then waking suddenly wondering why I can't feel half my face! Always a big adjustment lol

    thanks for all your comments!

I was reading that the best way to sleep is with several pillows, build a fort around your head so you don't move while you sleep.

Sleep with maybe 2 or 3 pillows under your head! I just had the surgery a week ago and had a hard time sleeping also. I would keep waking up very warm and weird feeling in my face. But it's okay! As time goes on, sleeping will become easier! Also, sleeping with your head up will reduce some swelling. Good luck!
