I'll be ready for upper and lower jaw surgery this summer & I'm wondering if anyone has used a cooling mask instead of the usual ice/ice packs. Check out these sites:

Anyone use this? If not, how well did ice packs work to reduce swelling? Were they a pain to deal with? I'm trying to decide if this is worth the cost.

    Thank you!

Upper & lower jaw surgery planned for summer 2010! Woohoo! =)

I used something similar to that, but it wasn't quite as secure, and I got it from a local pharmacy for about $15.

It wasn't a huge deal, but if I had known about this back then, I definitely would have wanted one, but not at that price.

While it would have been convenient, I would have spent at most $50-$60 for this.

If price isn't an issue, then go for it, and if it is, you can come up with some creative and similar solutions, like using a couple of long knee-socks packed with ice to wrap around.

I attempted to find something similiar to this and wasn't able to find anything locally. It definitely seems like a great product, but I agree with Brandon, not at that price. If money is not an issue for you and you decide to try it, I think definitely go for the 7-day rental, as 3 days would not have been enough for me. I ended up using ice packs for about a week total, then a heating pad felt better.
I had upper jaw surgery and really needed ice over my nose and upper lip also (not just around my head/face/lower jaw), so my hubby ended up buying gel eye masks, we froze them, and they worked great to put lower on my face (instead of over the eyes) and they fastened around my head to stay put. He purchased 2 of them, so I could switch them out when the one I was using defrosted.

    Good luck to you!

I had upper jaw surgery 2/3/10...well on my way to recovery, a great smile and finally being able to chew normally!

Thank you both! I've got a few months to figure it out, the cost is definately a factor but I may do it. I need to go back to work after 2 weeks so if this can really help with swelling and pain, I'm inclined to try it. I'll let everyone know if I find something cheaper.

I'm so excited my surgery is almost here, it's all I can think about...I hope these next few months go by quickly! =)
