how was recovery for you? any tips on what to expect and advice? :) also, how long was it until you felt 'normal' enough to begin to get back into everyday life? im hopefully getting my surgery done in july, and my 21st is in the end of october so im REALLY hoping to be somewhat normal for it!!! :)

Also, I'm getting my 4 wisdom teeth out on friday. How long will i have to wait for them to heal in order to get the surgery? my surgeon said 6 months, but i've read on here it's sometime up to a year! :(

    thanks :)

I had my winsdom teeth out before my braces were fitted, 3 years ago. My surgery was in Oct 2011.
I can't answer your question, sorry. It helps if you put your question in tread title.
    Good luck tho :-)

I had my wisdom teeth out for a little more than a year before surgery. I probably could have had the surgery earlier but my orthodontist took forever. It takes roughly 3 weeks to be between 80-90% and then you just gradually get better. I would advise you to buy a water pik to clean your teeth after surgery as well as a heating pad, healing lip balm and a child size tooth brush. Drink a ton of water even when you really don't want to, because it is incredibly important to stay hydrated. The first week is incredibly tough but once you get through it, it gets a lot better.

Emotional/psychological recovery was the toughest, and usually is for a lot of people. Depending on the post op therapy (wiring jaws shut vs elastics, palatal splint, etc.), you may have a tougher or easier time. Make sure you have a good support base (family, significant other, even on-line support like this website). Also, you should start a journal to record your experiences. This is a great way to "talk" about things you cannot talk to your support base about. Certain things need to be let out and a journal always listens.

Everyone is different but you'll probably look and feel ok by October if you have your surgery in June/July. You might not be able to eat everything you want at that point but birthday cake will definitely be manageable! You may have a tiny bit of swelling left but nobody will notice apart from you.
All the best with your surgery!
