I wish I'd had it done in my 20s but life kind of got in the way! (I'm 34 now) I'm not sure there's ever a good time to do it but I'm always shocked when my orthodontist tells me people just don't turn up for their appointments. Why would you drag it out any longer than necessary?!
NHS is definitely as good as private (apart from waiting times) and pretty much all private surgeons work for the NHS as well.
Hope your recovery is going well bonbon.

I was lucky enough not to have to have a splint so I don't envy you on that one. I'm sure it'll be a real relief to have it out. I wasn't expecting to have my surgery until Christmas but my teeth moved really quickly so I ended up having it in June and now I've got my sparkly new smile for Chirstmas!
Recovery does take a long time but changes are really small so sometimes you don't even notice your swelling has gone down. It's all worth it in the end.
Enjoy your time off work. I was off for six weeks and got all sorts done!
At least you can look forward to a new smile in the new year!!Posted 5 months ago # -
Im 19 and just had it done - all of the nurses/docs said being young has done ne a favour recovery wise but I'm also otherwise healthy.
It's just taken me 30 mins to get all my meds down by syringe. Make sure you have a good support around you, yesterday snd today have been quite bad days mood wise for me, questioning whether I made the right decision, but my family have been great.
Sleeping is also a pain - I have to sleep sitting up which isn't comfy.
I can't fault the NHS they have been great, the care I reviewed was outstanding. The only thing I'd say is the fact you aren't guaranteed surgery, I was told my bed wasn't ready/ waiting lists etc.
