    Hello,
I'm 18 years old and i just had lower jaw surgery two weeks ago. let me tell you first off to never, ever have it done. It has been the biggest nightmare for me that i can not get out of. I first has jaw surgery and had to stay over night because i had a horrible reaction to a medication they gave me in the opertating room itself. I just remember being totally out of it and exhausted. The pain level was horrible. I went home and I was in horrible pain. I knew somthing wasn't right. It ended up that a week later i had to go back in for them to redo one side. Here I am a few days after my second surgery. I hate all the medications and my mouth is full of blood most of the time from the swelling and stitches. I'm also wired down for 4-6 weeks so I bascially dont eat or drink anything and i can't talk at all. This is pure misery and i wish i didnt ever do this. Here i am trying to warn others to not do it. I thought before I did this that since I was so young, active, fit and healthy that everything would go right, but everything went wrong. NEVER again will i have an surgery everrr.

This really isn't a helpful post! All of the things you have said are the things that are to be expected from jaw surgery (which you will have been told about beforehand surely?). Sometimes people do have to go and have adjustments made post op and I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. You're still really early days so it's still a tough part of recovery.
Everyone feels rubbish after a general anaesthetic and you wouldn't have expected to come home the same day anyway would you?
There are so many positive experiences reported on here, and yes, we've all had a really tough time post op for the first week or so but it does get so much better, especially when you see your new smile.
There's no need to 'warn' other people off having surgery! It's a different experience for everyone and everyone deals with recovering in different ways.
4-6 weeks is no time and you'll feel so much better soon. You're still young, fit and healthy, that hasn't been taken away from you! You're post op and recovering.
I wish you all the best for the rest of your recovery. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but telling everyone here not to get jaw surgery is probably not the best thing to say!

It all depends how much things need fixing. Immedicately post op you will look completely different as you will have tonnes of swelling but most of it goes down pretty quickly. Yes, your appearance will change but in some cases it will only be you who notices and only from certain angles. Good luck with your surgery!

I am so sorry for the problems you have gone through. My name is Annette and I am a student at Baker College. I would like to ask you a couple of questions about your experience if you are comfortable with that.
It is for an assignment I have in a surgical patient class. Your privacy would be protected, I would only use your answers.
I hope to hear from you and I hope things have gotten better for you.
