I am currently 12 days post-op and I regret having the surgery done.

I know Brandon has said that he doesn't know of anyone who regrets getting the surgery once it's all said and done, but I'm feeling like I will be the first here.

Although, I guess my case is not all said and done yet. I will continue to update.

    Hey Jay,

You look great! It's completely normal to be a little down at this point in the process, kind of like post-pregnancy depression.

Your body has just been through a lot, combined with the fact that you're probably on some pain medication, so everything is a little out of whack right now.

I can tell a huge difference, and hopefully others will chime in as well. I still have no doubt that as the swelling continues to decrease and your nose returns to normal, you'll be a lot more satisifed.

Keep us updated, and cool blog too!

I'm Brandon, the creator of JawSurgeryBlog.com. I personally had upper and lower jaw surgery on October 30, 2007. Thankfully, everything went beautifully, so I'm trying to make sure everyone else's surgery goes smoothly as well!

Your profile looks so good! Don't worry about the nose thing...my nose looks exactly like yours. You could never see the inside of my nostrils like this. I'm not tring to be racist but I talked to my doc about what I did not want to happen to my nose. I am not white, and I did not want him to operate on me like I was white. But I think it was hard for him becuase I am black and white mixed. Even though for some reason everyone thinks I'm mixed with Asian. You'll get use to the nose. I wanted to get a nose job so bad when I was two weeks post op...but then the thought entered my head "what if I come out looking even worse!"
And another thing I regret is getting cheek implants! UGH! Why did the surgeon convince me to do that! I'm thinking about cutting my hair in a way that it covers my cheeks a little more.
Your not hte only one with regrets. You just have to learn how to live with them. I'm getting use to my face the more the welling goes down.
I hope that you feel better soon

Wow! I've been away so long from this site. Hello Jay. I don't understand what you are regretting about. I think you need to wait a little more time to really see the result. Look at Brandon. What amazes me about his whole reaction to the result is that he appreciates more now how he can bite correctly. I think that's what most of us are missing. The attitude to appreciate little things, but rather the most important things. Take it one step at a time. It's all in the mind.

Well thanks for all the positive comments.

They do help a bit. I'm 24 days out now and still seriously considering the nose job route. I do appreciate that I have a proper bite now, it just seems I've traded one bad thing for another.

    Hi there :)
I think your profile looks way better now. I agree with the others about the swelling though. As a nurse myself, I understand that it takes some time for the swelling to completely resolve...
I say, give it a bit more time and if you're still truly unhappy with your results: nose job, no more jaw surgery...cause your jaw looks great!
    Good luck to you :)

I had upper jaw surgery 2/3/10...well on my way to recovery, a great smile and finally being able to chew normally!

Im sorry to do this, but I honestly think you looked better before, especially looking at the 1mo post op post. Definitely your nose looked better before. I am also asian, and my nose looks similar to your pre-op. You havent updated in a while. Im hoping that by now swelling went down and things are looking better? Im having second thoughts, although my underbite is much more severe than yours. Which leads me to think my nose will change drastically.

This might be a long shot, but any other asians who did jaw surgery want to chime in on this issue?

Hi, I know this post was from a yr ago but i was wondering how did things turn out for you Jay. I am now in the same position as you felt but i have alot issues that i am not happy about. I am non Caucasian of black Caribbean descent. I had Upper jaw surgery for my underbite on March 16, 2011. So exactly a month now and i am feeling so regretful for having this surgery. I am happy i have a correct bite but that is about it. My surgeon told me my face would not change much at all because he was only making a very small movement 2 1/4 mm advance to my upper jaw. The whole time in preparation for my surgery it was supposed to be lower jaw surgery but he was having doubts about that the week before surgery date. I should have know that wasn't a good indicator. He told me that he thought upper jaw surgery would be better aesthetically for me but i think that was a big mistake. He said my face was too flat for lower jaw surgery and moving my lower jaw back would also mean he would need to move my chin which would cause sagging of skin. So him being the surgeon i went with his judgement. And i felt that he had enough experience in his field being the head of the oral and maxiofacial department so i trusted him. Immediately after surgery i was opposite of most people i liked my look even though i was swollen. That was until about week 4. As my swelling went down is when i got to that wtf stage. I now probably have about 15-20% of swelling left and i am so unhappy with the results. My nose is now upturned like a piggish appearance and it seems to be spreading wider. It actually seems to be upturning more as swelling and volume goes down in my upper lip. My surgeon actually told me after surgery that he shaved down bone in my lip area which he did not discuss with me prior to surgery. I'm now starting to think he also moved my jaw up as well because my upper lip just seems way too far out like buffed making me looked slightly over bitish if that makes any sense. And i can tell my face is shorter. My face from side view does not look portioned sticks out too far (almost like a sloping down appearance so my lower jaw still sticks out too much it looks like as if i have an underbite but now my teeth meet). And my face is now more square looking when i use to have a more feminine oval shaped face. Honestly, I can't remember crying soo much in my life looking in the mirror. I'm trying to tell myself things will get better but im having a really difficult time dealing with this. My mom even said i look like a totally different person. I just wish i never went through with this surgery in the 1st place.

I'm really sorry to hear this. You say you probably have about 15-20% of swelling left, I hope when there's not swelling left, the results will be better for you.
