Hi everyone. I have just returned home after spending two nights in hospital following upper jaw surgery. I had Surgically assisted rapid maxilla expansion, expander device installed, plates attached to the maxilla, two pre molars taken out and a wisdom tooth out.
Pre surgery i was very nervous as i was the last to go down and i am a bit of a wimp!
When i came round i felt fine, had a little more bleeding than they expected but nothing to worry about. The first day i felt exceptionally well, very alert and the nurses all said they could not believe how well i looked.
Day two was a bit harder, my sinuses were totally blocked so i felt a little suffocated and the swelling got a bit worse so it felt like my skin was being stretched. But still in all i felt a lot better than i had expected to.
Day three, i slept for 6 hours during the night, felt great in the morning. Swelling definitely on its way down, no bruising. Feeling hungry and great actually.
So it is Day three in the afternoon, my mouth feels pretty manky (can't wait to start gently brushing my teeth) but in all the experience so far has been so much easier than i expected it to be!
I will keep you posted on my recovery and when i have to start turning the expander in a few days.
Good luck all.... don't stress, nothing is ever as bad in reality as we make it out to be in our heads!
Oh and invest in some Arnica before your op..... it rocks!
