Hi everyone. I have just returned home after spending two nights in hospital following upper jaw surgery. I had Surgically assisted rapid maxilla expansion, expander device installed, plates attached to the maxilla, two pre molars taken out and a wisdom tooth out.

Pre surgery i was very nervous as i was the last to go down and i am a bit of a wimp!
When i came round i felt fine, had a little more bleeding than they expected but nothing to worry about. The first day i felt exceptionally well, very alert and the nurses all said they could not believe how well i looked.
Day two was a bit harder, my sinuses were totally blocked so i felt a little suffocated and the swelling got a bit worse so it felt like my skin was being stretched. But still in all i felt a lot better than i had expected to.
Day three, i slept for 6 hours during the night, felt great in the morning. Swelling definitely on its way down, no bruising. Feeling hungry and great actually.

So it is Day three in the afternoon, my mouth feels pretty manky (can't wait to start gently brushing my teeth) but in all the experience so far has been so much easier than i expected it to be!

I will keep you posted on my recovery and when i have to start turning the expander in a few days.

Good luck all.... don't stress, nothing is ever as bad in reality as we make it out to be in our heads!

Oh and invest in some Arnica before your op..... it rocks!

    Hey there.
Well i am day five now, yesterday was a bit harder. I think the anaesthetic was wearing off and i felt really spaced out and dizzy and the pain of the incision sites has increased. I am also feeling a bit nauseous from all the rubbish running down from my sinuses.

I am sure it will get better day by day. I really think the Arnica helped with my lack of swelling and no bruising at all.

I actually see a homeopath so i got the drops from him to take for 4 days before and 4 days after (as long as there was no excessive bleeding), i am unsure if you can buy homeopathic products from a pharmacy. Where do you live?

I have attached a link here that just talks about Arnica. Maybe search for a registered Homeopath in your area and talk to them. Or if not visit a good health food store, just make sure you tell your surgeon that you are taking arnica.

If all else fails my homeopath is Grey Homeopathy (based in Sydney) but he has client's all over the world and does Skype appointments.

    Good luck!

Hope you're doing well, I'm on day 4 here and I think I'm doing fine. I can finally take off the tape off my chin in the morning which was kind of bugging me. Must be feeling pretty good on week 2?
